https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/09/spor ... .html?_r=0Golden State Warriors Are Closing In on History
With a 118-113 N.B.A. finals Game 3 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors closed in on the N.B.A. championship. And they closed in on history. They have a chance to be the first team to go through the playoffs undefeated.
Should they succeed with a win Friday night in Cleveland, they would complete back-to-back seasons to remember: the greatest regular season record ever (73-9 in 2015-16) followed by the greatest playoff record ever.
Indeed, their playoff run would stand as probably the greatest in any major North American sport.
Previously, the best N.B.A. playoff record belonged to the 2000-1 Lakers of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. They raced through the first three rounds undefeated, lost Game 1 of the finals to Allen Iverson and the 76ers, then won four straight for a 15-1 record. In a three-round playoff format, the 1982-83 Sixers were 12-1, nearly making good on Moses Malone’s prediction of “four, four, four.”

History Can Be Made Tonight...
And as an added bonus, if it is, it will be at the expense of the Cleveland Cavaliers...

Re: History Can Be Made Tonight...
Game 3 was a classic; looking forward to seeing if the Cavs can bring the same passion tonight. They'll need it because the Warriors have too much firepower.

No, LJ - you were exactly right. History was made
Down 3-0 in the NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers came out shooting. Here are some of the records set during Game 4 with the Golden State Warriors.
Most points in a quarter in Finals history (Cavaliers 49)
Most points in a half in Finals history (Cavaliers 86)
Most points in a first half in NBA postseason history (Cavaliers 86)
Most combined points in any half in Finals history (154) *credit for assist: some CA team
Most combined points in a first half in NBA postseason history (154) *ditto
Made 3s in a half in Finals history (Cavaliers 13)
We can forget that "no team ever came back from 0-3"; no longer relevant. The CAVs broke the "no team ever came back from 1-3" last year and er.... oh.... it's 1-3 again!
Anyone else but me think the fix was in? Let us win one, you guys and then we'll fold like a cardboard umbrella back in whatever town it is out west.

Are they still playing NBA hoops? It feels like the playoffs are actually half of their season. Who won?

Now, if only the SF MLB team was only as good as the Golden State Warriors.

And lets not forget the sport that awards the absolute best trophy in all of sports, Lord Stanley's Cup.
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

That's a Canadian "sport", isn't it? Did the playoffs start yet?

I would argue that the athletes that play that Canadian "sport" are some of the most athletically fit athletes of any sport.
And yes, the playoffs have begun and ended. The Penguins won the Stanley Cup.

I disagree. It's not nearly as impressive as the five feet, four inch tall Borg-Warner trophy, awarded to the winner of the Indianapolis 500, which features bas-relief sculptures of the men who have won the trophy (with a new image added annually) rather than just their names. And if you put them side-by-side —

— sorry; no contest.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

An Impressive strophy too, but I think the history (and stories) of Lord Stanley's Cup makes it the greatest. But that's just me.
Your milage may vary.
I won't go into definition of a "sport/athlete" as it pertains to car racing and the drivers.

Pfffft, amateurs, all. The most beautiful and most valuable trophy in all sport is the Woodlawn Vase - all sterling silver, and there is only one. By comparison, the Stanley Cup is a replica, and only the bowl at the top is silver.
