Special Election In Georgia...

Oh, I'm not suggesting that it's not way closer than it should have been. The Republicans should have been able to go to town here and it has come down to the wire. If any GOP Congress critters think they are safe because Handel is managing to eke out a win, they should think again.

And they have called it for Handel.

I really wanted something to be hopeful about - fuck!

Be hopeful about the fact that in spite of shamelessly exploiting a shooting, they only managed to hang on by five points in a district they should have won by five times that margin.

Special Election In Georgia...
But is anyone truly surprised? I'm not. 2018 will be the real test.

BTW, this race pretty much disproves the myth that Hillary Clinton lost because she was a bad candidate, she had too much baggage, she was the "establishment" candidate, Bernie or some fresh new face would've done better because the Republicans wouldn't have been able to attack so viciously, etc., etc.

How so? Hillary lost because of the vote in rust belt states historically Democrat friendly where Bernie was very popular, no?

If the DNC had supported Bernie, Republicans would've used that to tie him to the "Democratic establishment." If Nancy Pelosi or Dick Durbin or Chuck Schumer or Debbie Wasserman-Schultz or any other prominent Democrat had supported Bernie, Republicans would've used that to tie him to the "Democratic establishment." If Hillary (or Bill, or even Chelsea) Clinton had supported Bernie, Republicans would've used that to tie him to the the "corrupt Clintons." If George Soros had supported Bernie, Republicans would've used that to tie him to whatever international conspiracy the wingnuts are pushing. If any liberal northeastern Jews had supported Bernie...well, you get the idea.
Jon Ossof was just about as new and fresh-faced a Democrat as could be imagined, but he was blasted continuously for having the support of all the demonized Democrats the Republicans could dig up. The only reason the Republicans didn't do the same to Bernie is the fact that he didn't get the nomination.
