I'd been in the hign forties 47 - 49 plenty of times and that is hot. But that day it showed 50 on my thermometer was quantitavely different - my eyeballs felt as if they were boiling. And yes I was wearing shoes.
I was in a few parts, including Dharan and Ras Tanura, and in both I experienced high temperatures (near 120 F) and high humidity (a deadly combination IMHO); I preferred it much more in the interior where it was a dry desert, even though it was well over 120 a couple of days).

I agree; and I really do like the high desert like in the Santa Fe NM area; beautiful landscapes and low humidity without excessive heat.
Not me, BigRR - but I do love Santa Fe and the high NM desert. I've been there most recently in March, and earlier, in June. Each time was different, and spectacular. 300 days of sun a year cannot be beat! High on my list of possible retirement locations. Home prices seem more reasonable than eastern Massachusetts, too -- although the long term water supply is always a concern.

I liked Albuquerque/Santa Fe quite a bit, although it did become quite uncomfortable in July/August so with projected climate change induced weather pattern changes, I'll steer clear of year-round living - it's already becoming a too warm too often for me here in eastern Massachusetts in the summer, markedly different from my childhood years here.
My retirement plan is to have a reliable vehicle for road tripping - something I truly love - and to be on a constant camping/sofa surfing & guest room squatting rotation visiting friends and family all over the country and in Canada, chasing the perfect dew point/temperature as I travel. I've got a bunch of friends in NM, AZ and CA, so I predict I'll spend my winters there and summers back here in New England/the Maritimes.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

My uncle and his father will be crossing through the area tomorrow, doing an Iron Butt ride. Might have to slow it down...I don't think my uncle's elderly, air-cooled bike will like 120 degrees and 90+mph.

My dad turns 85 in august and is still riding.
Hope I can still do it if I reach that age.
