I really do not know what point you are trying to make, Wes. If your point is that there are nutters out there of all political stripes, I think we knew that already. After all we get almost daily reminders here.

When I saw the subject line, I thought the OP might be about this:
Johnny Depp apologizes for 'bad joke' about Trump: 'I intended no malice'

Johnny Depp has apologized after making controversial comments about President Donald Trump, which caused the White House to issue a statement condemning him.

"I apologize for the bad joke I attempted last night in poor taste about President Trump," the actor's rep told ABC News Friday afternoon. "It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone."

Depp came under fire for bringing up Trump on Thursday evening. While introducing his new film, "The Libertine," at England's Glastonbury Festival, he told the crowd that Trump "needs help."

"When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?" he continued. "I want to clarify: I'm not an actor. I lie for a living, however, it's been a while. Maybe it's about time."

In a statement, hours later, the White House said, "President Trump has condemned violence in all forms[Well, that's certainly a Big Fat Lie... Donald "Punch 'Em In the Face" Trump has done nothing of the sort] and it's sad that others like Johnny Depp have not followed his lead," the White House statement read. "I hope that some of Mr. Depp’s colleagues will speak out against this type of rhetoric as strongly as they would if his comments were directed to a Democrat elected official."
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/whi ... d=48236038

Now just as happened when the story about Kathy Griffith was posted, I'm sure some folks are going to come in with, "Well, what about what Ted Nugent said? What about what Trump himself has said? " etc, etc,...

Well OK, if you want to use Ted Nugent and Donald Trump as your standard for acceptable political discourse, then by all means, feel free not to be critical of what Depp said...

(Oh, and let me stipulate, that as in so many other things, Trump is a shameless hypocrite on this subject...)

I like Johnny Depp, he's a very versatile and gifted actor, and I've enjoyed many of his movies (from Donnie Brasco to the POTC films) but I think what he said was very unfortunate, (maliciously intended or not...and I take him at his word that his intent was not malicious...he doesn't seem like a very malicious guy) and he did the right thing by apologizing.

I think high-profile celebrities joking about political assassination is something that we just don't need. (especially in the ultra-toxic political environment that exists today) No matter who the target of the "joke" is.

I can agree in principle, but it is difficult when the high-profile celebrity who is now POTUS has never apologized for saying that he could stand in the middle of 5th avenue in NYC and shoot somebody and it would not cost him single vote. . . .

I don't know why Trump needs to apologize for his stupid remark. No person was threatened and he did not suggest that he should shoot someone. He used hyperbole to make what seemed to him (and to many of his critics) a valid point - that many of those who wanted to vote for him are racist, misogynistic, violent morons.

I never saw that particular comment of Trump's as any sort of threat...

I always interpreted it as him expressing his scorn for his supporters right to their faces , saying "You people are so stupid and brain-dead that you'd support me no matter what I did"

And that he was using the "shoot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue" as just an illustration of what their mindless devotion would let them accept...

I get a tad uptight when I hear about assassination talk -- joking or not. I want Lord Dampnut to be healthy enough to walk out of office -- preferably in handcuffs -- and not carried out in a body bag.

Under the present political climate I fear that a bullet to Drumpf pumpkin head might kick off event similar to what happened when Archduke Franz Ferdinand met his untimely end. There are enough "ticking time-bombs" out there just looking for such an opportunity to explode. I don't need one idiot finally giving all the other idiots out there a reason to release their frustrations.

Depp made a dumb remark and then apologized for it. Trump makes dumb remarks and then doubles down on dumb and make more remarks he should be ashamed of. And did Ted Nugent (not sure why anyone cares) apologize?

I just thought that the fact that the CBC was, and were, as a group, offended by this fellow, was a good thing and was worthy of recognition in this forum.

I didn t read many of the replies in this thread, but I got the gist.

the gist was that most of you missed my point.

I thought that my words were clear, but perhaps you are right in assuming the worst of me as far as my ignorance and bad intentions.....

...or perhaps that would be wrong.

I thought that the fact that this politico from Peoria felt comfortable saying this out loud to the congressional black caucus was notable for its viciousness and its happening in an august and historic American "institution".

the cbc has somewhat redeemed itself in my eyes at least....

Maxine waters is a subject for another thread.

I don t usually like to spell out what I am thinking....

I come here because you guys are smart , or at least most of you were until trump made many of you absolutely bonkers and unaccepting of truth.

anyway, I never mentioned any of that other stuff that happened as far as threatening or hurting trump or republicans, but it was evidently on many of your minds.

many of you are really overboard and are speaking violently and perhaps you do share some of the blame for the current situation , which is ripe for violence and perhaps civil war..., or worse.

maybe the best thing to do for us all is to deal with the next four years and then vote again.

me? lord jesus I m still hoping for the best, but I m scared.

the younger kids are playing some really scary music....

maybe killing whitey is the right thing to do, but I m still against it....

Remind us again how the Congressional Black Caucus fits into this at all, because none of your source material (or the source material for your source material) references it at all. Everything I have read says that this occurred within the confines of the Nebraska Democratic Party apparatus.

Fixed
maybe the best thing to do for us all is to deal with the next four years and then vote again.
Once again your suggestion that everybody just suck it up and silently endure a lawless regime till the next vote, places your ignorance of the Constitution and your complete misunderstanding of how our political system works on full display. You can shut up and let this SOB get away with anything he wants to do to undermine the rule of law if you choose. I "deal with it" by supporting Impeachment.

many of you are really overboard and are speaking violently and perhaps you do share some of the blame for the current situation , which is ripe for violence and perhaps civil war...
Just like your hero, you shamelessly accuse others of doing precisely what you are most guilty of. The fact is, the only one who consistently raises the specter of violence and "civil war" is your own good self.

Let's go to the tape:
if trump is overthrown by the "establishment" or the "deep state" or Soros or Clinton or whomever..., [in other words, if he's removed through the Constitutional process of Impeachment] I expect our country to disintegrate into factions and into riotous chaos, eventually ending in war (both civil and invasive in our country) and actual disintegration into smaller states.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17239&p=229410&hili ... ar#p229410

do you really believe that civil war is better than trump?

those are your options .
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13607&p=226083&hili ... ar#p226083

(Your blatant threat of violence aside, no those aren't "our options." People like you could accept the Constitution and the rule of law and choose not to engage in acts of violence. And if some Constitution-hating terrorist criminals decide resort to violence, the legal system of our democratic-republic is more than strong enough to handle them.)

you will destroy our nation if you succeed in your misguided adventure.

you are deplorable and you will bring bloodshed to our land .

you will start a civil war if you succeed.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16995&p=225221&hili ... ar#p225221

I don t see a smooth road ahead. I see strife and civil unrest and war.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13607&p=224473&hili ... ar#p224473

I hope for political revolution with all my heart.

the alternative is civil war. god help us all....

trump is the only hope for our union.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14905&p=203724&hili ... ar#p203724

(So if Trump had lost the Constitutionally mandated election, you threatened "civil war". Now if he is removed through the constitutional process of Impeachment, you threaten "civil war" again. Why do you have such loathing and contempt for the Constitution?)

I ll take riots in the streets and a few years of civil war and a bit of Darwinism in action rather than suffer another 4 yrs of the Parties' rule
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13607&p=198946&hili ... ar#p198946

You can follow those links to verify that you have been quoted verbatim...

I'm sure that you don't like having your own words thrown back at you any more than you Maximum Leader does, but TFB....

The record clearly shows that the one consistently and repeatedly threatening violence and "civil war" around here is YOU.

this occurred within the confines of the Nebraska Democratic Party apparatus.
And the dip shit was promptly removed:
Nebraska Democrat party official fired for wishing Scalise was dead
By Josh Delk - 06/23/17 01:22 PM EDT

An official appointed by the Nebraska Democratic Party was ousted by the state party chairwoman on Thursday after the discovery of a recording in which he allegedly celebrated the shooting of a U.S. House Republican.

In the recording, posted without context on an advocacy site, the official, Phil Montag, is referring to House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) when he says, “This motherf---er, his whole job is like to get people, convince Republicans to f---ing kick people off f---ing healthcare. I’m glad he got shot.”

Montag did not deny that the voice in the recording is his but said he believed it had been edited to take his words out of context. [I'm having a hard time imagining in what context "I'm glad he got shot" would be acceptable, and unless he's claiming the word "not" was edited out of that sentence, I don't think he's got much of a leg to stand on...]

Nebraska Democratic Chairwoman Jane Kleeb fired Montag, voluntary co-chairman of the party’s technology committee, as soon as she heard the incriminating recording. Kleeb told the Omaha World-Herald that her report to the police about the conversation was out of concern that it represented a possible death threat.

“This is the first I am hearing of this,” Kleeb said by email to the paper. “As soon as I heard it, I sent it to the [party] officers and then sent an email to Phil Montag, informing him I am removing him from his appointed position as co-chair of the Technology Committee."

“Wishing a member of congress or any individual dead is disgusting and has no place in our party," she said.

“I’ll leave that to the police to determine their next steps,” Kleeb added. “That’s not my role.”
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing- ... alise-dead

Of course thousands of Democratic officials (both party and elected) condemned the shooting without reservation, but by all means, let's focus on the shiny object of the words of the powerful and influential voluntary co-chairman of the Nebraska Democratic party's technology committee....

ETA:

After doing a little digging, here's where I think wes's bollixed reference to the Congressional Black caucus comes from:
When he made the remarks, Montag was speaking to Chelsey Gentry-Tipton, the chairwoman of the state Democratic Party's Black Caucus, and her friend, Destin Madison, according to the Omaha World-Herald and Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/24/politics/ ... index.html

So the connection was with the Nebraska Democratic Party Black Caucus, not the Congressional Black Caucus...

But you'll have to forgive wes....

All those Black Caucuses look alike to him... :D

say what you will, but trump s candidacy has re invigorated our democracy and electorate, and for that alone he is to be commended.

this is what democracy looks like.

not violent protest, but political revolution.

you may be able to defeat it with violence..., or you may not.

either way..., you suck.

Actually, I quoted them verbatim; check the links for yourself if you don't believe me. (When you do you'll see that not only are they not "distorted" they're also not out of context.)
i fear violent civil unrest, and i unfortunately see it coming.

I neither fear it, (because I know the Trumpanzees are mostly a lot of talk, and if a handful of terrorists commit crimes I am confident our legal system is more than up to the task of handling them; they ain't no "civil war" in the offing...) and I'm certainly not "welcoming" or "fomenting" it.

Nothing lawless about Impeachment wes; it's the constitutional provision that exists for just such circumstances as these...

When you have an Executive flagrantly seeking to undermine the rule of law....

BTW, I haven't called for Trump's Impeachment since the day he was elected or the day he was inaugurated...

I certainly hoped that given his fundamental unfitness for the office, and his odd affinity for a major enemy regime, that the facts brought to light by the Russiagate investigations would justify his Impeachment....

That complex part of the investigation remains ongoing (and persons are being caught up that move it closer and closer to Trump), but now we also have the Russiagate Cover-up that he has been vigorously conducting, which provides a whole additional area for possible criminality...

I started calling for his Impeachment when he confessed to obstruction of justice on national television...
