So you know, I truly enjoy a tossed green salad with tuna, walnuts, and sunflower seeds on a regular basis -- maybe three times a week. Regardless, I'll take a tasty hamburger, or bacon club, or a nicely prepared medium sirloin steak over nuts and berries any day.

My BMI is an almost a constant 22.5, and I have a Body Fat % of 18.35 so my diet obviously keeps me within very healthy ranges so dying of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cancer is less likely. With my sarcoidosis death will most likely be pulmonary related.
Not to burst your bubble, but slender people die of heart disease and cancer all the time.

So do heavy people, body builders and couch potatoes, carnivores, omnivores, and vegans. We have yet to find a way to become immortal--at least in the bodies we have.

Vegan seems unnecessarily extreme to me with little or no more benefit to your health than lacto-ovo vegetarianism. When you get into vegan territory it's like attaching a philosophy to your diet choice. As in, "I won't eat an egg because I believe that all eggs should be allowed to hatch and chickens should live on the range where the buffalo roam", or "Cows are tampered with to produce extra milk so I'm boycotting milk".

Just a thought....

Yep, we all die of something... I'm fairly sure it's unavoidable.

Regardless, a proper balance of all the major food groups is key. I like to think I've found it.

Some people have ethical concerns about eating animals, sure.

But milk & eggs are both chock full of cholesterol and the body gets all the cholesterol it needs from the liver, it requires zero dietary cholesterol. Cholesterol clogs the arteries and causes heart disease even in regular weight people. My dear college/grad school mentor walked to and from campus every day, 5-6 miles, was a healthy weight yet dropped dead on his treadmill one afternoon because his heart was diseased.

It isn't normal to die from heart disease; that comes from diet more than any other factor (smoking worsens the risk). It used to be a rich man's ailment back in the time when most folks could only afford meat occasionally and put small bits in their soups and stews to flavor a meal that was 90%+ vegetables/grains.

Again, more than 5 decades of research clearly establishes that vegans are quite a bit healthier than folks who regularly consume udder juice and eggs.

And no, RT, animal products are 100% unnecessary for optimal human health. YOU may want them, but you don't get to make up your own science to justify that choice.

I would suggest that on the cusp of nationalized healthcare as we are, this is a critical issue because many physicians argue that as much as 80% of healthcare costs today are directly associated with our meat & dairy heavy diets, and could be eradicated by adoption of plant based diets.

Me and Jim have that sorted.

Can you give me that secret Gob? The bite of a vampire? some sort of serum? The power of positive thinking? I await your sage counsel.

Pretty sure in their case it's sheer cussedness. But the jury is out on whether that will actually work or not. I suppose we will have to wait and see.
