Just up the road
Re: Just up the road
Down here we are watching constantly throughout the day.
As soon as the waters recede further the ACT will be sending up a strong contingent of SES and ESA personnel to help with the body recoveries and reconstruction.

Re: Just up the road
We are watching the storms head your way . It is scary the Murry river has been so low for so long if this heavy rain hit it full on there is going to be some real damage down to SA and Vic
I have my appication for the SES and the Local Fire crew in. i was told because of my spine I will not be accepted so a little disapointed.

Telstra technician encounters five red-bellied black snakes in pit.
Telecommunications networks in Queensland are being hammered by the floods, with several exchanges offline and more outages expected as backup batteries run out in power-affected areas.

Yup. The snakes are everywhere at the moment from what I am hearing.
We have advise New Zealand that we will intercept them before they all get washed over there.

Would somebody slap this bitch already? These are just the kind of platitudes which don't really help at the moment.
Saint Anna seems to be doing a stirling job on the information front, at least that is the consensus in the Min's office from the advisers down here.
They believe this will see her re-elected this year.
I bet Kristina Kenneally is already digging trenches to bring the water to NSW quicker.

It would be a pretty BAD emergency!rubato wrote:The Hen wrote:I am so glad you were able to get through. Have you got enough food? Do you have bottled water?
If you have no bottled water, it might be a good idea to keep the bath filled in case of emergency?
What kind of emergency would get him to bathe?

Anna Bligh (altho I cannot stand the woman) has done a great job up to now. I hope she keeps the promises she has made to everyone.

Re: Just up the road
Hey if we are lucky only rego will go up But I am putting my money on a new tax or charge being created to help cover the cost of the flooding.
And the worst thing I have ever seen was Jullia Gillard's face while Anna Bligh was talking about the familys lost in Granthum and Toowoomba.
Jullia what ever you do don't smurk or smile when someone is starting to lose their composure on live ABC new
I'm not a fan of either of them but that was just low

I don't think that JG actually has any other expressions besides smug Aardy.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

May all the Botox has affected her mind.

Ardy, I'm so sorry, the devastation and loss is just overwhelming.
The tennis folks are also pitching in for relief -- special day on Sunday, prior to the start of the Australian Open:

Seeing as how I can't make the match on Sunday, I'd still like to contribute to help. What's the best relief organization in the area? Can someone post a link?Tennis superstars Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Kim Clijsters, Sam Stosur, and friends will gather on Sunday afternoon in Melbourne for a special exhibition to raise money for the victims of Australia's flood disaster.
Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Lleyton Hewitt, Stosur, Clijsters and Pat Rafter headline a glittering list of tennis superstars who will put aside their Australian Open preparations for the Rally for Relief tennis match at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday at 2pm
Many in the international tennis fraternity have been horrified by the disaster.
"Along with many of the other players I was moved by the devastation caused by the floods in Australia," Federer said today. "We just wanted to do something to help aid the recovery because we know there are thousands of Australians who will continue to suffer as a result of this disaster."
"This is a terrible tragedy, not only the loss of life but the destruction of people's homes," Nadal said. "I am pleased to be able to contribute in some way to help bring it to the attention of the world and raise some money for the victims in the process."
"As an Australian I cannot help but be touched by such an awful turn of events. It is a disaster on a massive scale," Hewitt explained. "Australians are incredible at pulling together in times of crisis and this is certainly one of those times. If the tennis community can also help play a role in the recovery then we should, both in Australia and internationally. I just think at a time like this it is a case of getting all hands on deck."
Queenslanders Pat Rafter and Sam Stosur officially announced the Rally for Relief at the Medibank International Sydney as a key plank in a major fundraising campaign by the entire international tennis community.

The best one I think is a Green Tree frog riding on the back of a Eastern Brown Sanke.
The top good new story this week

Re: Just up the road
I second that Aardy, anyone taking advantage of these floods to loot or to steal should be dealt with as harshly as possible.

A blunt warning from Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale: "The people of Ipswich will take the law into their own hands and if looters are caught they'll be used as flood markers".

It is the Aussie ability to laugh at one's self.
Or to find something to laugh about no matter how bad it looks.
We have Jullia Gillard as PM and most Aussies can fined something to laugh about.

Like the country is being run by a pigin with hair
