Trump Youth Jamboree

Post by BoSoxGal »

Our disgusting piece of shit Cheeto-in-Chief has reached a despicable new low, giving a disgusting political speech to the Boy Scouts of America, encouraging them to boo former scout member President Obama, engaging in his usual rally style of ripping on his opponents and boasting about himself.

Yeah, I saw the report on that...

Yet another low in vile public inappropriateness from our Self-Absorbed-Oaf-In-Chief...

I really didn't think he could get any worse after his political rally speech in front of the Wall Of the Fallen at the CIA headquarters...

And then I thought, "Surely it can't get any lower than this" after his self-pitying bellowing at the Coast Guard Academy graduation...

It's always a mistake to think you've seen the worst or the lowest Donald J. Trump is capable of, in any field of endeavor...

He has a virtually limitless capacity to go lower and be worse...

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.
Donald J. Trump is no Scout, honorary president or not.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

I made my Eagle Scout rank back in 1969. My certificate is endorsed by Richard Nixon in his capacity as "Honorary President" of the BSA, and after his ignominious fall from grace five years later I wondered whether I should display this or tuck it away and never mention it again.

Compared to Dumb'old J. Trump, though, having my certificate signed — even with auto-pen — by Tricky Dickie is almost as good as having it signed by G. Washington, A. Lincoln, F. Roosevelt, or J. Kennedy.

  • The smallest-ever gift from the Trump Foundation, $7, went to the Boy Scouts — apparently to pay a registration fee for Trump's son...

the POTUS fails on all 12 points? ! ? You can't even give him clean? I don't have on my bookshelf the latest explication of the law and its 12 points, and I think it has been softened up a bit for the modern generation. The version I remember for 'Clean' ended "and travels with a clean cloud." I am sure BB can straighten me out on this.

I might give him obedient, at least when it comes to his fixers of the election (possibly loyal too, with the same qualifier).

But clean? Can someone that slimy ever be clean?

I was a scout quite some time ago, and never recall "and travels with a clean cloud", but that does sound a bit like one of the explanations the handbook or something else might have said when explaining the "scout law".

Okay, if we're talking just in terms of personal hygiene, I'll give him "clean", since I have no reason to believe otherwise...(And I want NO additional information on that topic one way or the other...)

And he's certainly proven himself to be "thrifty" when it comes to paying other people what he owes them...

How can he be clean? His pores must be clogged by all that spray-on tanner. Blech!

No, the POTUS is NOT THRIFTY, as defined by the older version of the scout law. (as it would have read when he was of age to be a boy scout)

A Scout is thrifty. He does not wantonly destroy property. He works faithfully, wastes nothing and makes the best use of his opportunities. He saves his money so that he may pay his own way, be generous to those in need, and helpful to worthy objects. He may work for pay, but must not receive tips for courtesies or Good Turns.

I think it's appropriate for him to do this, but of course it's really not Mr. Surbaugh who needs to apologize:
Boy Scouts official apologizes for 'political rhetoric' of Trump speech

(CNN)An official with the Boy Scouts of America apologized to the Scouting community on Thursday for the political content of President Donald Trump's speech at the National Scout Jamboree.

"I want to extend my sincere apologies to those in our Scouting family who were offended by the political rhetoric that was inserted into the jamboree," said Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh. "That was never our intent."

Speaking Monday before about 40,000 Scouts, Trump delivered a speech that would not have been out of place on his campaign or in his tweets.

He slammed the "fake news" media, promoted the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, boasted about his election night victory and called out the Washington "cesspool."
"Who the hell wants to speak about politics when I'm in front of the Boy Scouts," he said, continuing to speak about politics.

Trump also riffed on the Boy Scouts loyalty pledge to criticize those in Washington.

"We could really use some more loyalty, I will tell you that," Trump said.

The speech represented a marked change from prior presidential speeches to the Boy Scouts, which generally discussed values and service [two things Trump doesn't give a shit about]rather than partisan issues.

A number of former Scouts criticized the nakedly partisan speech, and CNN contributor and retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling said the President "did not provide the proper example" to the crowd of young men.

In his letter, Surbaugh said Trump's speech had overshadowed the rest of the jamboree and its focus on Scouting.

"These character-building experiences have not diminished in recent days at the jamboree -- Scouts have continued to trade patches, climb rock walls, and share stories about the day's adventures," he said. "But for our Scouting family at home not able to see these real moments of Scouting, we know the past few days have been overshadowed by the remarks offered by the President of the United States."

Surbaugh said the invitation to the sitting President to visit the Jamboree is a "longstanding tradition" dating to 1937.[As long as Trump is President, they may want to re-think that...]

"It is in no way an endorsement of any person, party or policies," Surbaugh said. "For years, people have called upon us to take a position on political issues, and we have steadfastly remained nonpartisan and refused to comment on political matters. We sincerely regret that politics were inserted into the Scouting program.

"While we live in a challenging time in a country divided along political lines, the focus of Scouting remains the same today as every day," he said.

[Meanwhile, back where the apology should have been coming from:]

At the press briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she had not seen the letter yet. She said from her firsthand view the Jamboree was "one of the most energetic crowds" she has seen for Trump.

"I was at that event and I saw nothing but roughly 40-45,000 Boy Scouts cheering the President on throughout his remarks," she said. "I think they were pretty excited that he was there and happy to hear him speak to them."

The National Jamboree is generally held every four years.  I am hopeful that the existing problem will have been eliminated long before then.
