Not Your Average Household Mishap...

Ohio woman calls 911 saying, 'I have a boa constrictor stuck to my face'

An Ohio woman called 911 Thursday after a 5-foot-6-inch boa constrictor she had rescued wrapped itself around her face and began biting her nose.

The victim, a 45-year-old woman of Sheffield Lake, which is about 10 miles west of Cleveland, called authorities after one of the two boa constrictors she rescued the previous day had attacked her.[snakes are notorious for their ingratitude] The recording of her 911 call was released.

“I have a boa constrictor stuck to my face,” the woman yelled.

“Ma’am you have what?” the 911 dispatcher asked.

“Boa constrictor,” the woman repeated. “Please hurry. He’s biting my nose.”

Rescuers arrived within minutes and found the woman lying in the bloodied driveway of her home, the snake holding tight just as she described. A firefighter had to cut the snake’s head with a pocket knife in order to release the woman from its grasp. The woman, who was not identified, was transported to the hospital for treatment. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Dennis Bring, Sheffield Lake’s mayor, said he was pleased with how authorities handled the incident, according to WAFB.

“I’m just really pleased with the paramedic’s response and you know the thought, to think that quick to take out a pocket knife,” Bring told WAFB.

“Obviously he had to destroy the snake, but he had no other choice,” Bring said.

The woman told the dispatcher during the call that she had rescued boa constrictors on Wednesday and that she owned nine ball pythons.

“I would imagine the bite was very painful so she’s going to have to put up with that awhile, too. And now she’s going to have to make a decision on whether she continues to do this,” Bring said.

I'd say this lady has some serious life-choices re-examining to do...

Perhaps this will be a wake-up call for her that providing a refuge for 11 large deadly snakes in a suburban home may not be the best way to go...

Correct, Jim.  She should get rid of the reptiles and foster cute, traditional animals, like puppies or kitties.
A four-year-old boy in El Paso, Texas was mauled to death by his family dogs Thursday, police said.  Police identified the boy as Jacob Brooks, and said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. when he was playing with the four family dogs in the backyard of his house.  Officers who had been sent to the the Del Valle area neighborhood responding to an unknown problem found Brooks' body in the backyard.

Police said the boy's mother, who was not identified, had left him with the dogs in an enclosed trampoline in the backyard. They said it seemed the dogs had mauled him to death while playing, reports said.  Brooks' mother was taken to the hospital on protective medical hold.   No charges were filed as of Friday afternoon, but police said they are investigating the case.

After the incident, all the dogs, of different sizes and breeds, were taken into Animal Service custody.  It is still unclear what made the dogs react violently.  Police did not identify the breeds of the dogs.  The neighbors said the boy was seen playing in the area quite often, and his family owned as many as 10 dogs, including aggressive breeds like pit bulls and German shepherds, reports said.

This is not the first time that such an incident has been reported in the US.  In Aug. 2016, a Colorado woman was killed in a dog attack at home.  Her sons sustained injuries in the attack.
The body of a reclusive woman was eaten by her own cats as she lay undiscovered in her home for several weeks, an inquest has heard.  Janet Veal’s body was found with parts “gnawed and eaten” by animals that had been left without food for up to three months.  Neighbours initially raised the alarm after noticing a mail build-up in the 56-year-old’s letterbox, and realising they hadn’t seen her for some time.

Southampton Coroner’s Court heard how police officers gained entrance to the building via an unsecured upstairs window and quickly noticed the floors were covered in rubbish and rooms hadn’t been aired in months.  PC Dave Ivey said that, although he encountered a number of animals as he moved onto the ground floor of the building, the majority of dogs and cats he discovered were already dead.  In the kitchen he finally discovered the partially eaten body of Mrs Veal.

Coroner Keith Wiseman said: “These animals had been, the officer thought, confined in these two rooms downstairs for what may well have been a period of many weeks, stretching quite possibly into several months.”  He added: “This too was a distressing experience because it was clear that certain parts of Mrs Veal’s body were missing and had, the officer formed the view, effectively been gnawed and eaten away by the animals.”

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

When the animals were asked they all responded, "tastes like chicken."

Any parent who leaves a 4 year old child unattended with multiple dogs should be prosecuted for felony child endangerment, if not manslaughter. I'm so tired of these stories of dogs behaving instinctively because humans behaved stupidly.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
