Links
There are numerous posts in recent weeks I'm not able to read because of very long URLs breaking up the page; I wonder if folks might be willing to shorten links when posting, as a courtesy for those of us limited to reading on a mobile device?
Here's the method for anyone not already familiar:
short title the link, maybe just "linky"
Muchas gracias amigos!

No, shorter links don't break up the page when posted the regular way. Longer links are the problem.

Re: Links
Here's one where the first post has a link that breaks up the page so bad it's unreadable:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17935
Perhaps if you're looking at the forum on a large computer screen this doesn't show up?

Re: Links
So what I am asking is, if instead Guin had done this:
Birth of a New Nation
does that fix it, or does the URL itself have to be shortened by using one of those abbreviating programs?
eta - and yes, in understanding precisely what the problem is, the fact that I am viewing in a wide window on a computer screen is not helping me to see precisely what goes wrong.

Re: Links
Oh yes, I'm sorry - I misunderstood. Yes, using the method I outlined above fixes the length issue, you don't need a third party link shrinker like tiny URL.

Re: Links
None of those links skew my screen, and I've tried viewing logged in and not logged in, on my iPhone, iPad, and the desktop (not iOS) at my office.

My OS is the most recent, I always update as soon as the update is available.
It takes an extra 30 seconds, at most, to shorten a link.

Re: Links
This is the problem, thanks for that suggestion. Now I have to decide if it's worth it to me to use the ugly skin, or if I'll just ignore threads with long links.Crackpot wrote:I think it also dependant on the board skin you are using.

Re: Links
A few months ago I searched back to the old skin selection thread to see if the topic may be worth revisiting but all the links in the thread are dead.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
