I can get to 66% up here in Eastern Mass, or drive 750 miles. I think I'll be content with 2/3. I'm on vacation that day anyway, so will be able to watch.

75% is good enough for me...

Not going to drive 452 miles NE just to get the other 25%...

Eastern Wy or Nebraska will likely have more hotel vacancies.

By driving about 3-1/2 hours either north or northeast I'll be able to see it in totality. I have volunteered to drive my church's air conditioned bus. It holds 25 including the driver. My guess is we'll fill it and two 15 pax vans. I ordered 20 sets of approved eclipse glasses from Amazon @ about $1.39 a pair. Five will be on their own. Sure hope it's not cloudy.

Apparently there is a greater than 2 percent difference between where I work and where I live (less than 20 miles apart almost due west

What is the difference between an eclipse and a cloudy day? People get excited easily. However, if you send me $50.00 through PayPal, I'll send you an actual video that will show the sun not being visible in the middle of the day!! You can be the first on your block to own one.

There are a handful of crazy religious fundamentalist sects that hold this solar eclipse is a sign of the end times. I see that they uses Luke 21:25-28 as their source.
There will be signs in the sun and the moon and the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men fainting from fear and expectation of what is coming on the inhabited earth. For the powers of heaven will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption is drawing near.”
I sure don't see any apocalyptic relation in the verse but I, on the other hand, only find the bible to be a bunch of old time stories and not a guide to sanctimonious living.

I sure hope I'm right. Praise the Lord.

There are solar eclipses fairly frequently but they don't all happen where you live. You have to be pretty self centered to believe eclipses are only important when they happen in close proximity to you.

And we have a winner in the Eclipse Mania competition:

Wanted woman who wants to conceive child during totality eclipse in OR
I am 40 years of age, caucasian male from Europe. My heritage is strong and pure.

My looks, instincts, knowledge and strength is 100% pure and 100% lethal.

I am looking for a worthy female with strong genes, beauty and smarts. To join me - to experience the totality eclipse in Oregon.

Exact place not set.

If we have chemistry, I would like for us to make love while the eclipse is happening.

When totality occurs, we will have simultaneous orgasms and we will conceive a child that will be on the next level of human evolution.

We will make love together, with me and my penis directed towards the sun.
Everything will be aligned in the local universe.
Both of our cosmic orgasmic energy will be aligned with the planets.

In a brief moment of ecstasy, we will understand everything, and together, create a new universe. Full of love...

You must like cats. Drugs are OK. Nitrous Oxide while we climax and experience totality and conception, is OK with me.

somehow I think anyone who would post an ad like this, would be unable to achieve this, likely unable to even get his pants off before it is all over.

But LR, this exemplar is 100% lethal. I am sure this announcement will attract someone, but I doubt the pair will have any positive evolutionary results.

The church bumped us from the 25 pax "people mover" to the 33 pax one. It's a glorified bus. It will be full. Luckily I took it out for a trial run this morning. I'd never driven the bigger one. It's on an International bus chassis. The next stop was the A/C repair shop. It has been fixed, again. I will pick it up tonight on my way home, and have Mrs Mc take me back for my car.

One of the ladies going is a twin. She's bringing four kids. Three are hers and ones is her twin's. I asked the twin why she wasn't going. She said that she's pregnant with number two, and that her mother, who is Mexican, let her know that she shouldn't be out during an eclipse or it would effect the baby. (I'm not sure how.) Gotta keep the future abuela happy.

Nice, Econo. That pretty well sums it up, though it was an interesting natural phenomenon as well as the artificial phenomenon of hype. Ended up being an informal holiday for a large number of people.
