Re: Home for Random Thoughts
I think it's pretty cool that they have so many language options on those Netflix shows - occasionally I choose one just for fun, I like to hear another language and I almost always have English subtitles on anyway because that way I'll never miss any dialogue due to household noises or lower volume moments. As to fast forwarding - I watch on my tablet and can just drag the bar over all the stuff, no problem - didn't realize that it doesn't let you remote fast forward through them.
I can think of some people whose troubles I'd probably choose over mine . . . I think . . .

Re: Home for Random Thoughts
When we're through watching the show that's fine, but when we want to see the next episode we want to get past the closing credits so we can click to start the next episode...If they're the ending credits why don't you just turn the play off?
Obviously not an earth shattering problem, but I was curious to see if anyone might know what possible rationale Netflix could have for disabling the ability to fast forward past a series of obscure credits that probably 90% of their audience can't understand, and nearly 100% have no interest in...
Maybe it's something to do with the contract they have with the company that provides foreign language dubbing services for their original content programming...As part of the deal they have with that company, maybe they agreed to make it impossible for viewers to fast-forward their credits...
I can assure you this isn't the top one on my list, BSG...I can think of some people whose troubles I'd probably choose over mine . . . I think . . .

Oops, ha ha, I was referring to Scooter's post. I'd like to try on Amal Clooney's problems, for instance.

Hey Jim! After a Netflix episode I don't use Fast Forward. On my remote I push 'Return' and it goes back to the episode menu and will automatically start the next episode with 20 seconds unless I choose to do something else. You should have a similar feature but then again you may not be as affluent as I am, which is okay and you're still probably an acceptable person. I paid $59.00 for my Sony Streaming Blu-ray Player. Cash money.

Right on, LJ!
Why does my wife get upset when I root for the pretty one in women's tennis matches?
She says I should cheer for the most skilled one. I reply, "I'm hoping the pretty one is the most skilled". She says that's wrong too.
I'll be hard-pressed to choose which woman to cheer for in this year's Final - both are excellently appointed young ladies. I might be for Ms. Stephens, given the difficulties she's been through in the past year or two. She has really battled back and her semi-final was against the better player. But it could be Ms. Keys, who is more skilled at present and crushed Coco. . . but she does have that leg injury threat to overcome.
Maybe for the final I'll cheer for them both, hoping for a well-fought contest and may the best player on the day win.
But still - "Sloane" and "Madison"?
(and LR....
)

Why do their names matter? Or their "appointments?"
They are both excellent tennis players, who have played some really compelling tennis this tournament. It's been a joy to watch, and I loved the All-American semi-final. Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon -- and I don't care which one wins (as I was rooting for Venus all the way).

Oh, the names - don't matter at all. But it's nice to see yuppy names finally breaking through in meaningful sports.Guinevere wrote:Why do their names matter? Or their "appointments?"
As to appointments (and please note I included excellent
tennis reasons to support both and declared myself happy to cheer for the anticipated excellence of the Final), I offer this thought:
Show me a woman, I cry, who given the choice between a picnic on a gentle green hillside; beflowered in Spring and all ruffled by a gentle warm breeze; overlooking a joyous waterfall, cascading into a sparkling pool where birds and fishes disport themselves in the dappled sunlight—given that choice, I say, which of them will instead insist upon spreading their blanket on a Welsh coal tip in order to admire the runnels of filthy water dribbling down through the detritus of industry, no matter how valuable mining may be? I exempt Welsh women from this for they are accustomed to it.
But that's Snooks and not me. I think he was trying to justify a preference of his own, in the usual hyperbolic Victorian fashion.

I happen to know several folks of the female persuasion who have on occasion rooted for male athletes in sporting contests based on which one was the better looking...

Shhhh . . . don't point out the hypocrisy. It's not like anybody in this thread ever drooled over Tom Brady or Roger Federer or Lance Armstrong . . .

Did too! Red letters added for clarity. I suspect your vision was clouded by the first remark:Guinevere wrote:No, you did not.

Why is it the first outdoor concert I've been to in 17 years it's raining? We haven't had measurable rain in ~70 days. Well, at least it stopped raining ash.
