Two weather warnings have been issued for Cornwall as winds of up to 60mph hit.

The Met Office has put out a yellow wind warning which is in effect until 11am.

Although it says the conditions would normally be low impact, the time of year made it more likely to cause disruption.

The Met's chief forecaster said: "Strong westerly winds will give gusts of 45-50 mph quite widely inland.

"Gusts of 60 mph are expected along coasts exposed to the west, in particular coasts bordering the Bristol Channel.

"Normally winds of this strength would cause very few impacts. However, with trees still being in full leaf, they be more susceptible to damage with resulting debris possibly affecting roads and overhead power supply lines."
Piffle, we get strong wind gusts like that all the time. Try it when the trees are still in full leaf and it gets crazy cold and you have a snow and ice storm on top of the fully leafed trees. Then you've got damage.

All of you not living in Texas or Florida or having loved ones there, how are you surviving the Category 5 news coverage that's now knee-deep?

News from the rest of the world (ROW) has been cancelled. Nothing's happening.

I'm not so sure that's true, but in any event I managed a good balance this weekend -- and a glorious one it was in New England (felt slightly guilty, but no worries, our time will mostly likely come this winter). Checked on friends and family via FB (seems to be most efficient). Checked on the weather via my two fave weather guys on twitter (also efficient, and neither are drama kings). Only turned the TV on for tennis. Spent Sunday in the sun watching my little boo, who has worked his backside off on his new pony, take a bunch of very pretty colored ribbons in only their second class together, and get Champion of the Division (very proud Auntie, suitably cute (but not obnoxious) photos available on FB).

Other than the largest earthquake in a century hitting Mexico followed by a hurricane and one or two other things: flooding in India and Italy, China crashing the bitcoin party, Blair engaging in a little wishful thinking about Brexit, and good heavens the Dodgers (god's own baseball team) losing 10 IN A ROW and still having the best record in baseball. Why isn't that the headline? Crowding out by all this fake news.

And then there is Sun Power choosing to push its older and cheaper front-contact solar panels rather than their highest efficiency and most advanced (and pricier) back-contact panels. Both are still for sale btw.

I went to the beach yesterday because I couldn't take anymore coverage and I needed to be reminded how lovely the ocean can be - not always a monster-creator.

I check news at various sources online and make a point of keeping up with news that isn't US-centered.

My weekend was half & half. Saturday, my wife and I went to King Richard's Faire, which is pretty cool.

We then helped my mother close her pool Sunday, which sucks rocks. And Liz stole all the blankets. Again.

You guys are Faire people?! We should meet up next year, my cousins are big into King Richard's Faire and I've gone a couple of times and loved it.

There may have been an element of tongue in cheek there....

Not quite as eloquent and unequivocal as a stop sign, but a fish, IMO, is even better because it's funnier.

I have to admit I laughed at that before my better angels kicked in: I hope she and the fish are OK.

Enter stage right... cue the fish.

That's funny. I'm fairly sure there's no CGI involved.

Probably just my default position of cynicism, but I credit this one to the KKK Navy.
