I watched the entire UN speech from the POTUS on tv yesterday. I was disappointed, bewildered by the opening--We just approved 700 million more for defense spending, USofA is gonna be even more powerful militarily--did he think about his audience in that room at all? Many of them come from countries where the entire government budget is less than that. And his references to sovereignty, values. Total avoidance of the reality that much of the 'poverty' of the people of Iran and North Korea is a direct result of the economic sanctions that have been imposed on them for generations, at the urging of the USofA.
If I were the rep from North Korea, I could have used many direct quotes from that speech as logical evidence that NK needs atomic weapons for its own survival.

But considering the venue and the content of the speech, the reaction I have observed, in mainstream media sources both USofA and abroad, has been very quiet.

I conclude it is the silence of a polite crowd observing a turd in the punch bowl.

I do like how he blasts the Iranian agreement and suggests we may abrogate it, and then talks about negotiating other agreements--but then that must be "the art of the deal"--don't trust what we say or even sign, we can do what we damn well please.

No he did make that Emmys tweet; my point (wrongly) that he was concerned only about the Emmys and presumably how he was portrayed. I was not aware until LJ pointed it out that he had already made a reasonable comment about the Mexico quake.

It allows me to make a point. Trump and apologists say that use of Twitter allows him to communicate directly with people. Not really unless you follow (is that the word?) him. The rest of us without Twitter accounts or who do not hang on his every twit will see these pearls of wisdom and guidance only after they have been sorted and crushed by the main stream media.

I heard about that one earlier on the news this morning...

But I hadn't heard anything about Trump reacting to the horrible tragedy unfolding in Mexico, and after I saw EKA's post I thought , "Could he really be so callous and oafish as to not offer any expression of sympathy or support for Mexico about this?"

So I went to his twitter site (which I do occasionally; but never right after a meal.) to check, (fully expecting the answer to my question to be, "Yes, of course he could be that callous and oafish.")

But when I discovered to my surprise that he had in fact at least said something, I thought I would mention it...
