Trump entertaining his base, dissing the rest.

Post by Darren »

Scott Adams has some insight or should that be incite to offer. I think he's right. The question is, does Trump utilize the technique knowingly or is it learned behavior because it worked in the past?

Four tweets from Trump this morning
“Never seen such Republican ANGER & UNITY as I have concerning the lack of investigation on Clinton,” the president wrote, floating as supposed Clinton scandals “the uranium to Russia deal, the 33,000 plus deleted emails, the Comey fix and so much more”.

“Instead they look at phony Trump/Russia, ‘collusion’, which doesn’t exist. The [Democrats] are using this terrible (and bad for our country) Witch Hunt for evil politics, but the [Republicans] are now fighting back like never before.

“There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton, and now the facts are pouring out. DO SOMETHING!”
When the President shouts "DO SOMETHING!" who is he yelling at?

That's an excellent question. Last I heard Sessions said Clinton was sacrosanct or words to that effect. Unless there's something going on in the background, it makes no sense. Back a year or longer there was an FBI supervisory meeting. The agenda was about two ongoing investigations. One involved the Clintons' foundations and the rumored pay-for-play. The other was over the emails. Comey publicly tanked the latter. Recently info surfaced that the former was stopped within the FBI too but with no publicity.

Based on Sessions' actions so far, I'd say he's up to his neck in alligators. There's nothing he can do (if Trump is appealing to him) until the immediate stuff is out of the way.

This just in. Who knew the Wall Street Journal was pro-Trump? Something about collusion.

Note the revealed authorship of the article cited above: The Editorial Board. These things are supposed to be biased and reflect a particular view point. Actually the WSJ does a much better than average job of separating the editorial position from the news reports. In the news stories, the 'pro-business' bias is mostly limited to the choice of what stories they cover.

Interesting article in the OP, especially since Scott Adams famously predicted Trump's victory pretty far in advance of the 2016 election. Two thoughts on Trump's "making you think past the sale". First, the number of people this trick works on is, over time, diminishingly small: his hardcore critics have hardened to the point that they don't think in this way about *ANYTHING* he says anymore—EVER...especially since the "sales" he wants people to think about are repeated over and over, ad nauseam, so no new thought is ever required to process his words. Second, the most important (and most-repeated) idea he has tried to "sell" by this method is the idea that NO news media reports can ever, EVER, be trusted...which (considering the fact that the power of a free press is enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution) is a truly pernicious idea, and ultimately destructive to the American polity.

Yes, Darren, you (and Adams) are right. Trump is entertaining his base and dissing the rest of us. He aims to be the President of what? maybe 40 million? (best estimate I could find) U.S. citizens and to hell with all the rest. Unlike any previous POTUS, he no longer even tries to pretend that he would like to heal the wounds that divide us and be the President of the whole United States.
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.
