A woman pictured raising her middle finger toward US President Donald Trump's motorcade has reportedly been fired from her job over the photograph.
The image went viral after it was taken on 28 October in Virginia, close to a Trump golf resort.
Juli Briskman, who was identified as the cyclist in the image, alleges she was fired by employers Akima LLC after she posted it to her online profiles.
The company did not respond to the BBC's request for comment.
Ms Briskman told US media the firm had called her into a meeting a day after she informed their HR department she was the subject of the widely circulated image.
She told the Huffington Post news website that executives had told her they classified the image as "lewd" or "obscene", and therefore deemed that it violated their social media policies after she had posted it to her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
However Ms Briskman said she had emphasised to management that she had not been in working hours when the photograph was taken and had not mentioned her employers on the social media pages.

Re: You're fired!!
Memo to self: if someone ever takes a picture of me doing anything and asks me for my name, don't give it to them.
But even so, a big 'Fuck You' to Trump, his supporters, and the Republicans in general, and the loathsome policy of "at-will employment" in this particular instance.

Now you see an example of yet another reason why I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account or presence. There's just too many ways that something you post — or even something someone else posts and tags you on or links you with — can come back and bite you in the ass. However Ms. Briskman said she had emphasised to management that she had not been in working hours when the photograph was taken and had not mentioned her employers on the social media pages.
(ps — 'emphasised' ? When will those damned Brits learn how to spell?)

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Yet another company I will try not to do any business with (although I am unlikely to need a project management consultant); it pisses me off when companies try to control their employees" private behavior.

This is another case of severe blinders for management. This employee was hired to work with social media to promote company interests. When she reported a particular executive had posted very embarrassing stuff with the company clearly identified, he did not even get a slap on the wrist She gets fired.

She gets an A+ from me for moxie and an F for her inability to foresee ramifications. Flipping him off is private behavior. Publishing the picture is public behavior.

There's a perfect example for people who don't understand the meaning of the right to freedom of expression. The right to keep bare fingers shall not be infringed, but there are consequences.

Much higher risk with Twitter than FB. I stay away from Twitter since it has very little upside and a lot of potential downside; that and it is a poor way to communicate. FB is different because you have way more control over your audience, and you can un-tag yourself anytime. If you do post something offensive to someone that could get you into trouble, then it is on you. FB also has a big upside in that it allows you to keep contact with a large number of family and friends with minimal effort (maybe that's a downside for some), so the minimal risk is outweighed for most people.Bicycle Bill wrote: Now you see an example of yet another reason why I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account or presence.
