The Pendulum is Swinging

Post by BoSoxGal »

Democrats are winning! Virginia & New Jersey Governorships, lots of other offices, the first openly transgender state legislator in Virginia!

Is the Trump backlash in full swing? Fingers crossed for Alabama!

The Virginia gov GOP candidate followed the Trump playbook with lots of class and race dog whistles. This time not enough of the pack responded.

Well, I voted for the Democrat here in NJ despite the fact that I voted against him in the primary and that there was a Green candidate on the ballot (there was no SPUSA candidate). I've seen Phil Murphy at a few events over the last year; he says the right things mostly, and as long as the Legislature supports him and his agenda he'll be okay. I know the new Lt Guv from way back when she was State Assembly Speaker. If she wants to be of service to the administration and move legislation, she will certainly be an asset, and could very well make herself the real power behind the throne if she wants to. It will be interesting, that's for sure. I don't see her taking anywhere near as low-profile a role as our current Lt Governor (who just lost the election to Murphy).

Except that Bush was out and about for Gillespie. In case you haven't heard, the Bush family haven't been Trump fans after the whooping Trump gave Jeb seeing as how the dynasty thing was cut off at the knees. Unless Virginians are super Bush fans, that may have been terminal for Gillespie. Maybe he should have sucked up to Trump.

Maybe he should have sucked up to Trump.
The record suggests otherwise...

Three years ago, running as a straight GOP establishment type candidate, Gillespie came within .7 per cent of the vote of defeating Mark Warner for the Senate...

In that race, he carried Loudon County (an outer Northern Va. county)...

Yesterday, running as a hybrid Establishment/Trumpian candidate, he lost Loudon by 20 points...

Even the level of association with Trump he took on led to him getting trounced, as it motivated a huge bump in Democratic turnout...

Or, as Wonkette put it this morning:
Democratic Socialist Lee Carter beat Republican Jackson Miller, the sitting Majority Whip! How toxic is your party if your House Leadership loses to a socialist? On a scale of 1 to 10 you are fucking anthrax!!!

Now that Syria has joined the Paris climate agreement the US GOP are officially "the stupidest people on earth." Perhaps there are a few of them who would prefer not to own that designation?

Ah, "thoughts and prayers," always working, never failing.

Amen.
