Where is Older?

Post by liberty »

Does anyone know anything about Older, is he ok?
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

I can't find the post now, Lib, but I recall someone asked the same question a month or so ago, and Gob (IIRC?) contacted him - he is OK but taking a break from the forum.

As an alcoholic myself I can only feel that o'n'w is struggling with his sobriety once again. I hope I'm wrong but he surely fits the pattern for continual relapse.

Taff
Thanks for thinking of me. Still sober, just taking a break from planb.

Was seeing too much negativity so figured I would take a holiday for a bit.

I'll be back sooner or later.

Send my best to all, (you and Hen especially).

I'll drop him another line.

Thanks, Gob.

I was wondering the same thing a day or so ago.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

At the end of the day, oldr (and his cohort wesw) are delicate little snowflakes whose world has probably been rocked to the core in the last 10 months. But get used to it gentlemen, one day you may learn to be able to stick up for what you supposedly so proudly believed in for more than a few months.

Well, I feel HRC was the poster child for almost all of the DNC ills up until our last election in November. Since then I take comfort knowing the "ghost of elections past" has finally been exorcised. Hopefully she will quietly vanish into the ether once she's done plugging her swan song tome "What Happened." (We all know what happened... now move on.)

Nonetheless, I'm still standing. Nothing -- absolutely nothing -- ever said in these forums, whether for or against anything I think, feel, or stand for, is enough to bother me to the point of allowing my membership to lapse.

As for o_n_w, I still maintain he is once again fighting the demons that have been haunting him for decades. I don't believe for one moment that things said in here were enough to send him packing. For many people maintaining sobriety is a lifelong challenge. I understand that fully.

I am virtually certain that oldr has not been away from this place because of anything anyone else has said to him...

And I'm also not convinced that his absence is related to his possibly having a relapse. My reason for having doubts about this is because in his original response to Strop he didn't mention anything about it, and as everyone here knows, oldr has been very courageous in being open and honest about his personal struggles with alcohol on this forum. I strongly suspect that if that were the reason, he would have said something about it.

(I certainly could be wrong about this. While he's always been very forthcoming about what he has struggled with after he has come back from a relapse, perhaps he wouldn't mention anything about it while was in the throes of one. Also it's possible that he decided to take a break from the place, and then had a relapse after he replied to Strop.)

I recall that oldr once took a sabbatical from the forum not because of anything other people said to him, but because he didn't like the way he felt he was responding to others. One of the things that makes oldr such a quality guy, is that he's always been more focused his own conduct around here than he has been about anybody elses. (Even though on his worst day, he's been far less nasty then a few other folks around here on an average day.)

My personal thinking is that at least initially, this concern over his own behavior may be what led him to decide to take some time away. (Though I certainly wouldn't rule out a relapse also playing a role at this point.)

I'm sure O-n-W won't mind me posting this here..
And here i thought I would have been forgotten by now. *:-? thinking
All is good. Still comfortably sober (3yrs 4months). I understand serenity and know peace.
Maybe I'll drop in and see what it's all about.
Give my regards to everyone at planb if I forget to drop by.

I'm ready to retire, too bad my budget is not ready for that just yet. And I am jealous. *;) winking
Peace and Love to you, Hen and Hatch (and the planb folks).

So now we know why oldr hasn't been around.

He got wiser.

OK, judging by the above, thankfully, I am wrong. It appears O_n_W is beating the odds and that's great.

I await his possible return. Peace.

Older is probably the nicest guy around here; he is one those you can disagree and still remain friends. There are those that if you don’t follow their thinking lock step you are a NAZI and they want you dead, taking this place much too serious.

Older is wise to avoid negativity if that is what he is doing. After all, there are things much more important than anything one might find around here.

I was thinking about taking a trip and meeting him and a couple others in some neutral location, it might be interesting,
but the distances are so great and I have so little time and I have so much to do. Hell, I take vacation to work around the house.
