Time's Person Of The Year...

Post by Lord Jim »

Our poster-boy for NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) Liar-In-Chief is at it again:
Trump Says He Passed On Being 'Person Of The Year.' 'Time' Says He's 'Incorrect'

President Trump took to Twitter Friday afternoon to say he passed on possibly being Time's Person of the Year because he didn't want to agree to an interview and photo shoot.
Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
2:40 PM - Nov 24, 2017
The magazine tweeted a few hours later that that wasn't the case:
TIME

@TIME

The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.
5:27 PM - Nov 24, 2017
Trump was named Time's Person of the Year last year, which he called a "tremendous honor" at the time.

The yearly title isn't necessarily a mark of praise but rather an acknowledgment of influence. "[T]he person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse," a former managing editor of the magazine wrote. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin have both been featured in the role.

The magazine started naming a "Man of the Year" during a slow news week in 1928, it says. The title became "Person of the Year" in 1999, though socialite Wallis Simpson was a "Woman of the Year" in 1937.

In June, The Washington Post noted that fake covers of Time magazine featuring Trump hang in at least four of his golf clubs.

The Person of the Year will be announced Dec. 6.

The spokesperson for Time is being very diplomatic by characterizing Il Boobce's comments as "incorrect"...

"Lying his ass off" would have been much nearer the mark...

I would suggest Bob Mueller for Person Of The Year, but he might be a better pick for next year...

A collective award to "The People (women, and in at least Kevin Spacey's case men) Who Have Come
Forward To Out Sexual Predators" might be a good choice...(Though there might be a less cumbersome description Time could use to characterize that group...)

What person, (or group of people) would be your choice?

I'd go with your collective award, LJ. They have had groups before such as the Ebola Doctors a couple of years ago and the astronauts some time on the sixties. Now of course if they don't give it to Trump (and, bearing in mind the criteria for the nomination, I'd say he's worthy) he will forever claim it as the one he turned down.

Some years ago the honoree was “You,” in celebration of the advent of user-generate content on Youtube - the cover included a reflective (mirror-like) square.

I think a good candidate this year would be #metoo

I don't know about the Time Magazine Person of the Year but the Oscar should go to Melania Trump for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her excellent performance as the unhappy and unwilling First Lady in The White House Asylum.

I bet the last time this odd couple had sex was on March 20, 2006.

Yuk! Now it's going to take a gallon of brain bleach to get that image out of my head.

You can vote in the Time reader's poll for Person of The Year here:

http://time.com/5026497/time-person-of- ... 2017-poll/

The results are non-binding, and you can only cast a preference for names they have on their list (#metoo is on the list)

Most of the ones they've got listed have very low Yes votes, less than 20%....(You can vote Yes for as many as you want. It's a fairly long list but you can go through it quickly. Some of the names on it are truly strange choices. Maxine Waters, really?)

Interestingly, the Saudi Crown Prince is running away with the poll, with 55%...(#metoo is a distant second with 24%)

(In addition to #metoo the only other yes vote I cast was for the Chinese President Xi Jinping, who recently consolidated his power to become the most powerful Chinese leader since Deng Xiaoping)

The support number for Prince Mohammad Bin Salman is so out of line with the rest of the poll, I suspect there must be some sort of organized effort going on on his behalf to rack up votes.

I voted and then it said "100% of people agree with you". Does it say that for everybody?

Because of Trump's recent lie about being called by Time Magazine, I'd like to see Kim Jong Un get it.

That does seem extremely unlikely...

given how disagreeable you are... 8-)

I don't see how it's even possible to get "100% of people agree with you", given that all of the choices have percentages that voted yes and no...

I think Time pranked you Joe...

I just finished the voting - "No" on all of them. Apparently 100% of the people agree with me too....

Then I checked the Results So Far... Margaret Atwood has 4% and everyone else has 3%. Looks like it might be a crowded cover.

I just did a test voting "no" on every choice, (to see if doing that automatically gives the false 100% number) and I only got 87% agreeing with me... :?

Here's the link Meade referenced to the current results:

POTUS turned down the honor? ! ? He thinks he needs to give permission? Bye the bye, Time magazine is on the auction block and the major buyer in line is an agent of the Koch Brothers. Better Homes and Gardens no longer has a joke page in the back, and Time may become a bastion of right wing slants.

On the other hand, the criteria for Time's 'Person of the Year' makes this selection not necessarily for honorable actions.

I think it's hilarious that Il Boobce is currently tied at 2% with Maxine Waters and Serena Williams...

I'm sure that's company he's delighted to be in... :D
He thinks he needs to give permission?
and agree to an interview and photo shoot...

Time's Man Of the Year for 1979 was The Ayatollah Khomeini...

Does Trump think they called him up and said, "Ruholla, we'd like to name you Man of the Year, but we'll need to drop by for a photo shoot. Maybe some leisure shots with you and some girls in swim suits by the pool?"

The sad thing is that even when Trump makes a claim as ludicrous as this one, there are probably about 20% of our fellow citizens out there who'll believe him... :?

Nah, they probably sent a camera crew to Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden to take some home life pics of him and Eva...
