The initial trickle has become a flood and I wonder if we aren't in danger of becoming numb to new accusations before we create a consensus method of following up on individual cases of abuse. Must every one accused of any level of inappropriate behavior lose their jobs/careers? Forever or only a temporary stay in the wilderness to atone?

Saying "all pigs are pigs" asserts a single approach to everything. Either that or it hurts the process of making finer distinctions.

I think saying "all pigs are pigs" says that all misconduct needs to be addressed, but establishing gradations of pigs says that the penalty should not be the same in all cases.

Of course I'm aware of those, probably true, accusations. I just want to know when they are going to DO SOMETHING about them. Why wait until he's out of office? Is there something that says a president is above the law? Is there something that says he could have been elected it he'd shot someone in the middle of 5th avenue? I almost wish he'd tried it.

I think this article, which TIME Magazine recently sent out as a Tweet from a March issue, speaks volumes.

I guess now I know why. :ok

With his accuser count now up to seven, it looks like Al Franken is toast...

So far 24 Democratic Senators (half their total Senate caucus, including Independents Bernie Sanders and Angus King) have come out publicly for his resignation...

He's expected to make a statement tomorrow...
Avalanche of Democratic senators say Franken should resign

Democratic senators came out in droves on Wednesday calling for Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) to resign in the wake of multiple charges of groping and improper sexual conduct.

The charge was led by women in the Senate, seven of whom came out with successive statements seemingly in coordination calling for Franken to step down.

"While Senator Franken is entitled to have the Ethics Committee conclude its review, I believe it would be better for our country if he sent a clear message that any kind of mistreatment of women in our society isn’t acceptable by stepping aside to let someone else serve," Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), the first out with a statement, said in a message posted on Facebook.

The statements mark a shift for Democratic senators who previously dodged calls for Franken to resign despite a growing number of allegations against him. As recently as last week they said they were waiting for the Ethics Committee to review the accusations against him.

That changed when a new charge became public on Wednesday from a woman who said the senator has sought to forcibly kiss her in a 2006 incident.

Six female Democratic senators quickly followed Gillibrand in saying that Franken should step down: Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Patty Murray (Wash.), Mazie Hirono (Hawaii), Tammy Baldwin (Wis.) and Maggie Hassan (N.H.).

By early afternoon, Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.), the No. 2 Democrat, and Democratic Sens. Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Bob Casey (Pa.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Michael Bennet (Colo.), Edward Markey (Mass.), Maria Cantwell (Wash.), Patrick Leahy (Vt.), Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), Martin Heinrich (N.M.), Tammy Duckworth (Ill.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), Tom Carper (Del.), Ron Wyden (Ore.), Tom Udall (N.M.) and Chris Murphy (Conn.) had also called on Franken to resign.

Sens. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Angus King (Maine), both Independents, also called on Franken to step down.

"The right thing is for him to resign. We are now at a crossroads in American culture. And it is an important one. The way we treat women in our country has been abysmal in almost every way. We are finally addressing the issue of sexual harassment, and we need to get it right," Sanders said in a statement.

Franken's office said he would be making an announcement on Thursday.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D), the other senator in Minnesota, did not explicitly echo calls for Franken to resign but said she had spoken with her colleague.

"Sexual harassment is unacceptable. This morning I spoke with Senator Franken and, as you know, he will be making an announcement about his future tomorrow morning. I am confident he will make the right decision," she said in a statement.

At the rate these accusations are coming in, it won't be long until somebody wants a senator to step down because he made goo goo eyes at her.

Uh oh.... I did it again....

The things he is accused of are relatively mild and not rooted in manipulation. And it should be said that a lot of comedy is based on transgressive behavior.

Unless there are things I have not heard of I think Dems are being fools about this.

Maybe the democrats are sacrificing Franken with the hope of shaming and pushing more republicans to speak out and force Roy Moore to resign. Probably a waste of time, but possibly a motive. If they had the ability to be shamed, they'd be demanding that Trump step down.

I think there's an excellent chance that if Moore wins the election, that he will be expelled. (He'll never resign; this is a guy who had to be kicked off the Alabama Supreme Court twice.)

McConnell re-iterated again this week that if Moore is elected he'll be facing an immediate Ethics Committee investigation, and there are plenty of Senate Republicans who will be delighted to vote to rid themselves of Roy Moore...(probably more than enough to get to the 67 vote threshold with the Democrats)

No question the Dems are playing the long game here. It’s not just about Moore but about the 2018 midterms.

This tweet says it well: “Al Franken credibly accused of sexual harassment. Dems: Resign from the Senate!
Roy Moore credibly accused of child molestation. GOP: Welcome the the Senate!

We all now know which one is actually the party of values, and which is the party of power above all.”

Welcome to one of the several significant themes for Democrats for 2018.

All of which makes expelling Moore the smart play from the GOP standpoint...

If they don't, the Dems will see to it that every Republican running for the Senate in 2018 has Roy Moore for a running mate...

I don’t believe one word of what Yertle says. Moore will be welcomed with open arms, not expelled. Didn’t you hear the GOP President - “we need Moore to keep on beating back the Democrats” or some such nonsense.

I agree guin, and I do think this can give the dems an advantage next year if they play it right. But the party leadership has shown itself to be much better at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory than doing things right, so I still am concerned.

I’ve been feeling that way about Trump since June 2015 but despite all his sloth and gluttony, he prevails.

I was really hoping yesterday’s ‘cotton mouth’ was a stroke. I don’t even care if you all pile on me now and call me evil; he’s MORE evil and it would be a blessing on the country if he dropped dead ASAP.
