Yo Guin, I saw houses flooded and cars being washed down the street in Hull. It looks daunting. Have you escaped the storm's ravages?

According to the National Weather Service we got 16.9 inches in my town, but it looks like a heck of a lot more. Our plow guy hasn’t shown up yet and it’s going to be bitter cold the next few days so right now, I’m having my first ever thoughts of moving to Florida . . .

I'm all good Ray, as is my home and my Town. We had a fair amount of water, in many places, and some evacuations, but we kept power and kept safe. In any event, much of the MA coast took a beating, including Boston, and it was a bad storm but it moved through quickly. A combined supermoon high tide of 12 feet, plus storm surge of 4-5 feet with high winds, plus sea level rise, created a tough situtation for many. But is sunny and clear and dry (but COLD) today.

ETA: Breaking Newz -- Boston had the highest tide ever recorded yesterday - 15.16 feet, which breaks the record from the vaunted blizzard of 1978 which was 15.1 feet.

I remember the '78 storm as a catastrophic failure of weather forecasting. I heard the local TV meteorologist predict "snow flurries" for our area; we ended up with nearly two feet of flurries. It was the biggest single snowfall event I have ever seen.

I’ll never forget the Blizzard of ‘78; my brother and I loved playing in the massive snowdrifts, but my father hated the cleanup so much we were relocated to Arizona by the winter of ‘79-‘80.

Bear Delaware seems to be located in a hole in the weather map. Yesterday I looked at the 'Weather Underground" online site and their radar showed snow constant, everywhere in our area. Well, we did have lots of wind. But the main roads and most of the side were cleared of all but a coating by 11am.

Total snow on the ground was about one inch. Schools were closed--and I agree with that decision. EVERYBODY around here takes the school bus, even if you can see the school building from your front door. With the 'school choice' policy as locally applied, very few attend the closest school. That all means the students would have been standing out in unacceptable cold waiting for the bus.

Granted, what is 'unacceptable cold' has local variations. The wind chill numbers here today and yesterday would probably be routine in the parts of Michigan where I lived 50 years ago. But not here in Bear. But on the other hand, 30 years ago I proudly bragged about the many times I road my bike in New Castle County, DE for more than 5 miles with the temperature below zero. I don't think that temp has been reached around here in the last ten years. Again, Bear seems to be in a hole that avoids really bad weather. That Blizzard of '78 was a bad 'un even in Newark DE.

He is welcome to it. I am not thrilled at the 8' drift against my dwelling! And even less thrilled by the fact it is 3 degrees.

One of my cats has burrowed under the blanket on the end of the couch...there is no cat, just a small lump, and whiskers stocking out.

My cable provider (FiOS) does not offer that channel on the cheap plan. Instead they have 'ACCUWeather" which I dislike, but at least it has no reality entertainment fake-news about the weather. We are lucky, I think, in this area to at least have some competition. Response to customer complaints to either Comcast of Verizon seem to be better and faster. Too many places have only one provider and it is take it or else.

I mostly prefer the Weather Underground stuff on my computer.

My cable connection is selected by my landlord and is part of the rent. It was Comcast Xfinity until Verizon sold them on a new contract about three years ago and we were inundated with 'fiber-optics' propaganda and then disruption as the Comcast hardware was ripped out and the Verizon stuff installed. As a renter, I had no choice. I can pay extra and get more channels, or Comcast, but I have resisted.

I remember when I was traveling frequently on business, the hotel room tv always had the Weather Channel, but it was a national version which was great for planning when and how to go to another destination 500 miles away, but lousy help for deciding what coat I would need after the dinner across town

We have Verizon FIOS at home and my client for my live-in gig has Xfinity; I have to say I prefer the Xfinity just because I can talk to the remote and tell it to dial a channel and it does. That’s SO cool! (I’d probably lose my mind if I had an Alexa or whatever!)
