Now that's some genius right there.
Excellent. I went to school with one WS Gilbert who was the great grandson of the man who was the author of the original lines from HMS Pinafore. Probably the most apt song for a Trump parody is the "Ruler of the Queen's Navee" - about the totally unqualified First Lord of the Admiralty who had risen to the post because - OK I'll post the lyrics below. Gilbert wrote it as a satire because it was essentially true that in those days it was quite possible to rise to the top despite an alarming lack of qualifications. Sounds familiar . . .

When I was a lad I served a term
As office boy to an attorney's firm
I cleaned the windows and I swept the floor
And I polished up the handle of the big front door
He polished up the handle of the big front door
I polished up that handle so carefully
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navy
He polished up that handle so carefully
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navy

As office boy I made such a mark
That they gave me the post of a junior clerk
I served the writs with a smile so bland
And I copied all the letters in a big round hand
He copied all the letters in a big round hand
I copied all the letters in a hand so free
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navy
He copied all the letters in a hand so free
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navy

In serving writs I made such a name
That an articled clerk I soon became
I wore clean collars and a brand-new suit
For the Pass Examination at the Institute
For the Pass Examination at the Institute
And that Pass Examination did so well for me
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navy
That Pass Examination did so well for he
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navy

Of legal knowledge I acquired such a grip
That they took me into the partnership
And that junior partnership I ween
Was the only ship that I ever had seen
Was the only ship that he ever had seen
But that kind of ship so suited me
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navy
But that kind of ship so suited he
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navy

I grew so rich that I was sent
By a pocket borough into Parliament
I always voted at my party's call
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all
No, he never thought of thinking for himself at all
I thought so little, they rewarded me
By making me the Ruler of the Queen's Navy
He thought so little, they rewarded he
By making him the Ruler of the Queen's Navy

Now, landsmen all, whoever you may be
If you want to rise to the top of the tree
If your soul isn't fettered to an office stool
Be careful to be guided by this golden rule
Be careful to be guided by this golden rule
Stick close to your desks and never go to sea
And you all may be Rulers of the Queen's Navy
Stick close to your desks and never go to sea
And you all may be Rulers of the Queen's Navy

I was in HMS Pinafore in 5th grade; because of the way I know dementia generally progresses, I suspect that someday many years hence (I hope), I'll be sitting in a rocker in a nursing home somewhere singing "For he IS an Englishman" when I no longer know who anybody is or even who I am.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

For he, himself, hath said it. And it's surely to his credit...

andy--I recall Mad Magazine doing a parody of Nixon with a number of G &S songs; the only ones I recall are Three Little Nixon Wives (to three Little Maids from School), Dump Spiro (to Tit Willow), and one using this song--one line was "look straight ahead, keep your goals in sight, but remember you can bend both to the left and right" these rest of the song was how he changed positions (like he understand the commie danger so perfectly, that now he dines with Cho en Lai across the sea, or he understood the value of the dollar so perfectly, that last year he devalued all our currency). Perhaps there could be a Dump Donald, for Pence to sing?

Report: Trump Referred To Haiti, African Nations As ‘Sh*thole Countries’

President Donald Trump on Thursday asked lawmakers why the United States allows people to immigrate “from shithole countries” like Haiti and African countries, the Washington Post reported.

The Washington Post reported, citing two unnamed sources briefed on Trump’s meeting with lawmakers, that Trump asked, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

According to the report, Trump made the remark in reference to Haiti and African countries, and then suggested the United States should allow more immigrants from countries like Norway instead. Trump met with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg on Wednesday.

It was not clear what criteria Trump was prioritizing in his description, [yeah right]but 95 percent of Haiti’s residents are black, while 83 percent of Norway’s residents are Norwegian by descent (only 8.5 percent of the country’s population is neither Norwegian nor European).

I'll be singing along with you, BSG! My mother sang with a light opera company in my hometown; they did a G&S production every year when I was a kid. I grew up listening to the records of the D'Oyly Carte, and running around backstage during rehearsals.

Drumpf is just saying it like it is. And his 30% base will be shouting 'hallelujah.'

Hillary was able to see it almost two years ago.
You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. (Laughter/applause) Right? (Laughter/applause)  They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic — Islamophobic — you name it.  And unfortunately, there are people like that.  And he has lifted them up.  He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people — now have 11 million.  He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric.  Now, some of those folks — they are irredeemable, but thankfully, they are not America.
...... 9/9/16 speech in NYC
After this latest outburst from our C-i-C (Clown in Chief), I don't think anyone can deny that Trump and his followers/supporters are, indeed, "deplorables" and "irredeemable".

The thing that makes this truly bizarre is the context in which he said this...

He didn't say this in a private exchange with advisers or friends...

He came out with this disgusting bit of blatant, callous, misanthropic racism at a meeting to discuss immigration reform with congressional leaders, half of them Democrats...

Saying this in front of this group of people means one of two things:

1. He wanted to make certain it would leak out because some bizarre calculation has him believing that the "benefit" he would get by sending this "I'm one of you" message to the racists in his base would out-weigh all the damage he would do with his standing with everyone else in the country and internationally...

2.His compulsion to express his racist impulses is impossible for him to resist, no matter how damaging it might be to him politically. He just can't help himself...

Either way, not really what one would ideally expect from a Very Stable Genius...

I had a long conversation with my brother last Saturday. He is a long time Clinton (both of them) hater, and proud of it. He also is proud to be a self-identified Evangelical Christian.

During our talk he told me honestly believes that during the presidential campaign Donald Trump had a conversion experience and became a born-again Christian.

And now yesterday POTUS said he had no idea why we Americans would want to let people from these hell-hole countries like Haiti and all of Africa come to America.

May because we are Christian, and they are hell-hole countries?

And on yet another topic, what ever happened to that old-fashioned amurcan value to never trust a man who would not share a drink with you.
That was a major factor in electing Bush 43--that you and he would enjoy a beer together in your backyard. POTUS won't even drink a glass of wine from a bottle with his name on it.

Trump is racist to the core and his advancing dementia prevents him from making any efforts at hiding it any longer.

He is, of course, now lying and denying he said shithole in describing all of the African continent and several countries in our own hemisphere. His delusional supporters - like the idiot who thinks Trump is now a born again evangelical Christian - will believe Trump and not the others in the room.

He is, of course, now lying and denying he said shithole in describing all of the African continent and several countries in our own hemisphere.
He's denying it, without really specifically denying it:
President Trump acknowledged Friday that he used “tough” language during a meeting on efforts toward a bipartisan immigration deal but appeared to deny using the term “shithole” to refer to some countries.

“The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made — a big setback for DACA!” Trump wrote on Twitter, referring to the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Spokesmen for the White House did not respond to a request for clarification Friday. The White House did not deny Thursday that Trump used the vulgarity, first reported by The Washington Post and later confirmed by numerous other news outlets.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... e773d9843c

A Republican Senator at the meeting, Lindsey Graham, (whose behavior has been disappointingly Trump-suckup of late) didn't directly confirm the "shithole" remark but didn't deny it either, and made clear what Trump said was grossly inappropriate:
In a statement Friday afternoon, Graham did not specifically address what was said at the White House, but made clear he disagreed with the sentiments expressed by Trump.

“Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday,” he said. “The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel. I’ve always believed that America is an idea, not defined by its people but by its ideals.

On Friday, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) told the Post & Courier newspaper that Graham told him that the reported comments are “basically accurate.”
Ryan also didn't deny it (in fact no one who attended that meeting, even Trump's strongest allies, have denied it)
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) called them “very unfortunate, unhelpful” during an event Friday in Milwaukee, pointing to his own Irish ancestors’ migration to America.

“First thing that came to my mind was: Very unfortunate, unhelpful,” he said. “But you know what I thought of right away? I thought about my own family. ... It is a beautiful story of America, and that is a great story and that is the story we have today and that is a story we had yesterday and that is what makes this country so exceptional and unique in the first place. So I see this as a thing to celebrate, and I think it’s a big part of our strength.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... e773d9843c

You can see other reactions at that link as well...

ETA:

Even though no one is denying what was said, with a few exceptions, the Congressional Republicans are certainly not covering themselves with glory in their reactions to this...

Most seem to be issuing very general criticisms, or trying to change the subject, or ducking it completely...

And he has cancelled his trip to the U.K., because "I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for "peanuts," only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars. Bad deal. Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO! "

Even assuming this was true (which of course it is not, the deal was made under the Bush administration and nothing has been proffered to show that it was a bad idea), in what alternate universe does it make sense to snub a close ally as retribution for the actions of a former presiden?

Yeah, that explanation for cancelling the UK trip is piss-your-pants hilarious...

Trump cancelled his trip to Great Britain because he doesn't want the optics of the mass protests against him that his presence would trigger, full stop...

ETA:

He said before that he didn't want to visit the UK until the British people "wanted" him to come...

He'll have a shorter wait for a Cleveland Browns Super Bowl victory...
