I went back later on and the USPS website functioned normally. One of my purchases was the self-same WPA stamps which I have used before. I'm tempted to buy some Eid Greetings and Harvey Milk stamps to send to 'special people' but I really need to get a grip. I have more than a year's worth on hand.

Stamps!
Re: Stamps!
I don’t use the mail enough anymore - but it’s a resolution to send a card to a friend every week this year.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

And it's philatelic releases like these, and the Looney Tunes stamps, and the "Star Wars" stamps, and the comic book superhero stamps, and countless others over the past forty years since the Cabinet-level United States Post Office became the nongovernmental privately-run United States Postal Service back in the 1970s — although it wasn't until the mid-1980s that it really started to become apparent — that has caused stamp collectors the world over to begin regarding US commemorative stamps as little more than 'wallpaper'.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: Stamps!
The attraction of collectables is more emotional than rational when it comes to value. I recall looking up the prices for Bix Beiderbecke 78s and comparing them to Elvis Presley Sun Studios 78s back in the 1980s.
