I often default to the theory that inherent in nature is a kind of common sense - most things that are very nasty and can kill you are also pretty hideous and scary-looking.
It would never occur to me to try to touch one of those pointy moherfuckers:
Certainly there are some lethal critters and plants that are sneakily harmless-looking - but again, there’s a certain common sense to it.
You’ll have to pardon my outrage but I’ve seen so much thoughtless and even intentional destructive behavior engaged in by ecotourists; many species of starfish begin to die immediately upon removal from the ocean, some can’t even last a minute before their insides explode to the outside. Yet douchbag humans MUST have their selfies and videos - fuck the starfish! Or the baby dolphin or the corals (which are so fun to TOUCH while snorkeling and scuba diving, who cares if the dive instructor told you that touching them KILLS them), etc. ad infinitum.
I really do despise much of the human race.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
