I watched the Eagles game last night and was surprised about the disrespect shown during the singing of the national anthem, where the team allowed its mascot to cavort around the stadium around the time we are all supposed to be dedicating ourselves to worship of our flag (at least according to our president). Now yes, the mascot was a bald eagle, but then, I would imagine if the giant Viking started dancing around the stadium someone might have objected (or maybe not), so why the pass when the mascot is an eagle? Personally, it doesn't bother me (hell, not having the anthem at all wouldn't bother me), but in this day and age when players kneeling down during the anthem bring a major presidential rebuke, where is the rebuke of the self promotion of the Eagles during this very serious time? It happens in baseball too--I see the same lack of bitching about Orioles fans exaggerating the "Oh" at the beginning of the singing and Atlanta fans singing "home of the Braves" at the end, there's nary a comment about disrespect. But a few black guys silently kneeling during the anthem the warrants a presidential rebuke.
