Sportsball
Hey Guin, wanna go to Minneapolis in the dead of winter? Seems there's some sort of soup bowl folks are excited about,
GAH!
Re: Sportsball
Well, I'm certainly no Eagles fan, (I was rooting for the Vikes in the playoffs) but since they meet two criteria:
1. Being the last team that stands in the way of yet another Superbowl ring for the insufferable Cry Brady
2.Not being the Dallas Cowboys

‘Cry Brady’ - that’s funny!

Fly Eagles fly, to the Gulf of Mexico... (I'm no good with these stupid lyrics.)
If the Eagles play with the same intensity they displayed last night I feel they will finally get their revenge on the Pats. I feel good about their chances, but what do I know? I still don't understand half the calls the umps make.
E..A..G..E..L..S... Yay!

Even on this board with plenty of gray hair, the majority of posters were not alive, or, if alive were not aware of, the last time the Eagles won the NFL championship. They were led by Norm Van Brocklin, a hall of famer out of the University of Oregon. I suspect that history won't be much help.

Given where you live BSG, I'm going to recommend against putting one of those on your car bumper...
One good thing about this game...
Since it's being played well after Christmas, we don't have to worry about the Eagles fans booing Santa Claus off the field at halftime...

Short doco (2 parts, 10 mins total) on Iggles fans: "Passionate and Hostile." That's it in a nutshell, although they left out "frequently drunk." Some of this is really pretty funny. "A true Philadelphia fan learns to boo before he can speak." "I've seen little kids who know only five words and two of them are 'Dallas sucks.'"

Re: Sportsball
After living on the edge of Philadelphia and listening to Philly radio as my audio choice since 1972, I appreciate the effort to help me speak properly. The three syllable vocalization of the word 'acme' is present here in Northern Delaware to identify the particular grocery store chain. I think for many residents, the ghost of Rizzo is still 'the mare'. It took the election of that black Schtreet guy to make clear to me the reason for the main thorough fair named the weirdly redundant 'Street Road'.
Edit addendum: On Jeopardy last nite (feb 1, '18) There was a football category.
ZERO contestants tried to answer any of the clues. "I Really don't care about Football' and I got the first one, something about what do you call the play where the quarterback has choices? The word choice told me the correct response was what is the option play. But none of the three contestants buzzed in on it or any of the others in that category.

What's funny is that as much as Iggles fans hate Dallas (and they really do hate Dallas A LOT), they hate the Giants sooooo much more.Lord Jim wrote:"I've seen little kids who know only five words and two of them are 'Dallas sucks.'"![]()

They were all common knowledge, not even Football 101 terms: "option play", "fair catch", "offsetting penalties", except for "Purple People Eaters" where you have to know (or have lived through) a bit a sports history.
Re: Sportsball
I knew the first two the rest no clue.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Sportsball
I agree LR, only the last (Purple People Eaters) really dealt with any football knowledge--the rest could have been easily guessed by anyone ever seeing a football game. I guess no one really wanted to risk losing any money.
Re: Sportsball
Btw LR you only gave 4 of the answers

Re: Sportsball
I was going off of memory from hearing the audio on a morning sports radio show -- Alex Trebek's reactions were the best part.
Re: Sportsball
Somebody should check to see if those contestants are here legally.
