If You are a Fan of Orange is The New Black
Re: If You are a Fan of Orange is The New Black
You got me binge watching this now; I hadn't seen the first season or so. 10 episodes down, 682 to go.

Orange is the new black is very good but a little ragged. The character "Piper" is one of the least interesting but many of the others are outstanding. Interesting portrayal of how people get and use power over each other from the subtle emotional machinations of "V" when she manipulates Susan and "Tasty" to be her minions to the more direct and brutal methods of fear, threat of violence, bribery and transactional exchanges.
Very interesting, not very erotic.

The latest season (4) is the weakest. It looks like they're turning it into more comedy than drama. When it won an Emmy for comedy I didn't understand how it could be seen as one. Now the comedy is very obvious.
Re: If You are a Fan of Orange is The New Black
It was always "dramady" haven't watched the last season yet.

Except for the last episode, ugh!rubato wrote: Very interesting, not very erotic.
Re: If You are a Fan of Orange is The New Black
So I finally got around to this, binge watched up to the first few episodes of season three in the past few days (I've been keeping my calendar as clear as possible this month in anticipation of surgery, and am getting a bit stir crazy, so give me a break), and while I have been enjoying the story lines, I'm not finding that it lives up to all the hype.
For all the talk about the approach to sexuality as innovative and daring and more fluid, 85% of it is gratuitous lesbo porn clearly aimed at attracting a 20- or 30-something male demographic. Perhaps two characters can be seen as acting (if not also feeling) somewhat bisexually; evenyone else is depicted as a hard Kinsey zero or six.
There is not a single male character who appears more than fleetingly that isn't a complete dick. (And for the record, any prison guard who has sex with an inmate, or masturbates after speaking to an inmate, or makes lewd jokes about or in the presence of inmates, is a complete dick.) Even when one shows some flash of potential redemption, he re-descends into dickishness in the blink of an eye.
It is so obvious that their use of flashback is a ripoff from Oz, which used it sparingly and effectively. Here there is way too fucking much of it, and almost none of it advances plot or characterization even a little bit.
We are hit over the head with character after character getting pulled back into toxic relationships over and over again. How about, gee I don't know, showing a broader range of how people end up committing crimes and other bad behaviour?
I will say that I found how they chose to resolve the story line surrounding Lorraine Toussaint's character particularly satisfying.but only because her character, like a few others, was so unequivocally evil that she would have been more at home in a spaghetti western.
I will probably continue watching it, because it's still better than a lot of crap being shown on TV, but even among the small genre of prison dramas, or the even smaller subset of women's prison dramas, it doesn't rank among my favourites.

Let me know if you make it through season 4.

Oh yeah, and that atonal cacophony that passes for an opening theme needs to go.

I watched a few episodes and wasn’t sold; life is getting shorter every day and there are a lot of great darkly comic Slavic crime dramas to watch.

Just binged Season 6, and it may be the best one yet. Focused on the more interesting characters, and downplayed the lead (Piper) who is fairly boring in a world of interesting personalities.
Re: If You are a Fan of Orange is The New Black
I have yet to get through the last 4(?) episodes of season 5. It was just getting to painful to watch

It's trash* so I didn't even start.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Meade just likes civil war prison shows and then only if there are no gay soldier characters.

If "Orange is the new black" does that mean that Trump is actually black?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
