The "Purple People Eaters" may have taken them (the Minnesota Vikings) to four Super Bowls, but they choked like they were trying to swallow whole cantaloupes when they got there.

This is the first time in over 25 years that I actually wish I could watch the Super Bowl . . . because instead I'm stuck listening to FOX News's liars and sleaze balls barking falsehoods about THE MEMO!

I see the line on the game has moved from 5 1/2 favoring the Patriots right after the conference championship games, down to 4 1/2...

I'm definitely hoping that the Eagles will pull it off, but I'm sure not confident about it...

Not after what happened last year...(The last time Atlanta's defense collapsed that badly, the place got burned to the ground...)

If the Eagles are up by three touchdowns with the ball and two minutes left in the 4th quarter, I still won't consider the game won...

I think physically and talent-wise Philly can win, but I also think that with all the experience and history Cry Brady and Co. have in The Big One, the potential for them to be able to get into the heads of the Eagles players and get them to beat themselves is pretty strong...

The mood at Bank Stadium is definitely pro Philly. If the fans are motivators I feel Philly will survive, but I'm sure it's going to be a tight game. I am going to record the festivities just in case something really special happens but I don't have plans to watch it. Way too much hype. In Philly it has been an inescapable barrage of green & white over the last two weeks and, quite frankly, I'm sick of it.

My Hollywood pal sent me a large box of SAG screeners back in December and I'm in the process of viewing them. This will certainly get me through the night. So many movies, so little time until the Academy Awards. (BTW -- "Darkest Hour" -- it's a slam-dunk for Gary Oldman.)

Ray I am with you. The CBS and NBC Philly stations run local news from 5:00 til 6:30. ABC runs it from 4 til 6:30. How are they gonna fill all that time without the remotes from "Mall of America" and the Philly airport?

As a person with levels of intelligence and general knowledge that is probably closer to 'stable genius' than anything Dum'old Trump may possess — and who would have aced all of those questions — I resent that statement.

Well, that was an exciting game right down to the wire. Nick Foles came really through exceptionally well. Guin, you owe me a chowda.

Yes, another good championship game. If it is close, any big play can make the difference and upset the natural order of things.

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans...

It was a hard-fought, exciting, and well deserved victory...(Though I have to say that when the score was 15-12, I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be the first Super Bowl where neither team as able to convert any extra points...)

I was also glumly convinced when Brady went to work down by five with a little over two minutes to play that the Patriots would yet again pull it out...I was obviously surprised and delighted by what happened next...

And speaking of what happened next, I couldn't help but notice that Brady, being Brady, couldn't help but try to get over with something sneaky...

Though the ball is clearly knocked from his hand well before he begins his forward throw, Tom Shady follows through with a long phony passing motion...

Obviously in a desperate attempt to somehow fool the refs into thinking the ball was slapped free while he was in the act of passing...(Which would have been ruled an incomplete pass, rather than a fumble):

Eagles fans take to the streets in celebration...(alcohol may have been involved...)
Fires, mayhem, insane trust falls in Philly after Super Bowl win

Image

The Eagles will have a Super Bowl parade this week.

Fans aren’t going to wait.

Philadelphia was on fire, in some cases literally, in the aftermath of the Eagles’ 41-33 Super Bowl LII victory on Sunday, the first in the franchise’s history.

Quickly social media was, uh, lit up with celebrations, with fans notorious for passion letting it all out.

More concerning than the flames springing out of the city were the trust falls, which fans should not have been trusting. A video went around of a man perched atop a Ritz-Carlton awning falling into the crowd from a height, trusting he would be caught.

That scary jump led to a scary fall, as the awning later collapsed under the weight of the fans.

Image

In the lead-up to the game, light poles were greased up with hydraulic fluid, the city’s latest attempt to keep fans from climbing them in celebration.[ That's what I call knowing your peeps... :D ] Of course, Philly fans again saw it as more a challenge than an obstacle, and there were still people dangerously hanging off poles.

“F–k that grease,” the fans chanted as the daredevils climbed. Many of them were seen chugging beers as they got to the top. At one point the fans got so out of control they pulled down a light pole.

The streets of the city were also filled with Eagles fans chanting “F–k Tom Brady” [okay, well nothing to argue with there...]in reference to the Patriots quarterback— and “Big d–k Nick” in honor of Philly QB Nick Foles.

By 12:30 the mayhem started to increase, as the windows at the Macy’s near City Hall got smashed.

One man was inside the display taking a selfie with a mannequin, [fortunately, I did not see a photo of what he was doing with the mannequin :?] and when cops arrived, he was taken away.

A bit down Market Street, a window to a T-Mobile store was broken as well.

“From the men and women of @bostonpolice to our brother and sister officers of @PhillyPolice: ‘Congratulations to you and your city. Please be safe out there,'” Boston Police tweeted out, which was retweeted by the Philly police.

In a city of 1.5 million, it seemed there were about 1.5 million revelers.

Yes, one of the funniest scenes tonight was the failed crowd surfer. He never caught the wave. I understand he's in the hospital with head and neck injuries. Thee traffic light standards at City Hall were also ripped down. The revelers were pissed off about the grease that was slathered on them.

Up until about an hour before the win it was pouring rain in the region -- and right near the freezing point. I was hoping the rain would continue through the night but Mother Nature must be an Eagles fan.

And now the parade is scheduled for Tuesday. If I were the mayor I'd put the NG on high alert.

BTW -- Nick Foles earned SB/MVP honors. Next season the coach said Wentz would be the starting QB as long as he's fit. Only in Philly would you see an MVP 2nd stringer. So you know, Foles has always said he want to remain in Philly... no plans to go anywhere else.

The thing that surprised me last night was how biased the announcers were towards New England, and especially Brady. After the last Eagles touchdown, there was a little over two minutes left, and one of them said, "with Brady, it's more like 2 months". Likewise, even after the interception and the field goal, we had to listen to how Brady had more than enough time to still win. Sure hey complemented Foles a few times (usually about how "surprising" his performance was), but it's like these guys were on NE's payroll.

And Jim, I thought that showed the experience of Brady in attempting that; like the Sarah Bernhard writhing in soccer after an incidental contact to get the would call, it's part of the game to try and distract the referees.

Ray, I hadn't heard about Wentz still being the starter, but I would bet that Foles will reconsider his position during the off season and do what's best for him at this stage in his career; likewise, I really can't blame the eagles for their decision (but their timing of the announcement sucks), Foles looked good (even great) in the post season, but he hasn't had a particularly good regular season with the Eagles, even this one.

It is nice bookend to the start of the team's great 17+ year run, where the "tuck rule" saved a Brady fumble in the AFC playoff matchup with the Raiders.

And Foles has always been a good thrower, with reasonably good mobility: you surround him with good talent and keep the pass rush off of him, and he looks like a multi-million bucks. To date, he hasn't translated into the kind of quarterback that can take a mediocre team to the playoffs.

I had forgotten about the tuck rule and its role in that game, and NE benefitted mightily from it.

And he was beaten by a back-up QB ... who made the trick-play catch that Brady dropped ... and had a better pass completion percentage. 8-)

Time to retire, old man.

I think I may go to the parade on Thursday; it's not like anyone will be able to do anything else in this part of the world.
