Not sure if it was the same one. I don't recall the route but I remember being at Trafalgar Square (and making a quick detour to the National Gallery to see the Turners) because I was pissed off by the 'Victory to NLF' banners on the steps up to Nelson's Column. My thought was that this was an anti-war demonstration - what we wanted was for them to declare a truce and all go home. It had to be 69 or 70 because I was in my last year as an undergrad.MajGenl.Meade wrote:I had the same experience, Andy. Not the Reagan part; the above. Were you in the march from Temple Station via Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park (?) in '69 or '70?As someone who marched against the war in the safe confines of London, I did not expect to be moved - but I was.
Equally moving to me, and this is close to home for you, Meade, was a visit I made to Kent State in 2005 or so. I was living in Buffalo and had a couple of client visits in N Ohio (Cleveland and Akron) so I managed to make time for a detour to Kent which, for those of you unfamiliar with the region, is 45 minutes or so southeast of Cleveland. It was late March and the daffodils were out in abundance. There is a bit of a memorial and the spots where Jeffrey Miller, Alison Krause, William Schroeder and Sandra Scheuer fell are marked. I found that intensely moving. I wasn't the only one: there were two other older guys like me walking around the site, clearly on the same personal mission. They died on May 4 1970 which was the first day of final exams for me. (I am ashamed to remark that I had to look up Sandra Scheuer's name: the memory banks must be full or are refusing to divulge their contents at will.)

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Hmm. Add a bit to the chin and about 35 pounds (OK 15 kilos) and it's a pretty good likeness. I wonder if Macron told him what Bastille Day was all about.Scooter wrote:
