The flag is a symbol, not an object of worship. Communication is an appropriate use of a symbol. If they banned the flag out of disgust for the current state of the Federal Government I would think that was appropriate even if it is not how I would communicate that sentiment.

They could have quietly just decided not to play the anthem and there would be no story. But they got up on a soap box and the end result is likely that the boomerang effect will result in just the opposite of what they are hoping to accomplish.

In actual fact the SSB, as far as I'm concerned is inoffensive per se and if someone wants to sing it as a form of protest I have no issue with that. But Liberals traditionally have defended free speech it is Conservatives who traditionally try to suppress it.

They are Highschool students. We want them to explore, investigate, have the courage to make up their own minds and even the courage to be mistaken once in a while. High school students are works very early in process, making mistakes is the most valuable part of learning. Untwist your knickers. we do not suffer from a lack of repetition of the SSB.

I have to say, seeing rube defending words and actions based on an ignorant lack of knowledge of the facts wasn't my OMG! moment of the week...

Based on his track record, this is clearly something he can identify with...

It is also part of growing up to learn to get the facts before you act.

As anyone who has read his posts for any length of time well knows, this was obviously not a part of rube's growing up, (or if it was, he has long since forgotten it)

Learning to own-up and admit when one has gotten the facts wrong is also a part of most people's growing up, but (like the person he has so many character traits in common with, Donald Trump) rube was apparently absent from class the day they taught that too...
