People associated with the U.S. team kept repeating this stat to the point where it was as if they believed that it meant they had won the game.

Curlinggate! (times 2)

Post by ex-khobar Andy »

1) The Russian man (Alexander Krushelnytsky) from the mixed doubles bronze medalists has tested positive for meldonium in his urine. There are many non-curling fans who might remember his wife and curling partner, Anastasia Bryzgalova, who is quite spectacularly attractive according to some accounts although, of course, as a married man I do not notice such things. Meldonium is what sank Maria Sharapova for a few months of suspension.

2) The British skip for the women's team hogged a stone and thus they lost to Sweden. Now ordinarily this would be a well OK, shit happens sort of incident, but it seems that there is solely an electronic system for determining this and no human intervention. If you are one of the half dozen people on the planet who needs an explanation, a stone is 'hogged' if the shooter fails to release it before it crosses the hog-line. All the video evidence (not on Youtube yet) indicates an electronic judging error but it cannot be overturned. The horror!

That's the rule, if people are getting in a twit about it, too bad. It's like all the crap that was being thrown at the Canadian player that took a rock out of play after a Danish player had touched it with her broom. The rules say it was her choice to do so (she could have also allowed the rock to stand where it was or move it where she thought it should have been had it not been touched), but even Canadian media were calling her "unsportsmanlike" for doing so, that somehow she had tarnished are reputation for being the good guys. Why have rules at all, then, if players can break them and expect no penalty?

I imagine there may well be a next time in the finals.
I think there's a very good chance of that...
Give those boys their Edgar Cayce awards:

USA will face Canada in the gold medal game for the third straight Olympics

The women's ice hockey tournament at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang is nearing its conclusion and the gold medal game matchup is set. The United States locked up a spot in the championship game for the third straight Olympics, and -- for the third straight Olympics -- they'll face Canada. The Canadians have won the prior two matchups.

Wednesday, Feb. 21- 11:10 p.m. [EST] USA-Canada
(The USA men's team meets The Czech Republic in a quarter finals match tonight at 10:10 PM, EST)

I'm trying to wrap my mind around the idea of why anyone playing in a Curling competition would need to dope...

The spectators sure, so they can stay awake, but the "athletes"?

My grandmother could provide the physical exertion and stamina needed, and she's dead...

FANTASTIC game...by both teams...

(Though I have to say, that shoot-out thing is kind of a bullshit way to decide an Olympic Gold Medal....)

And anyone who says women's hockey isn't exciting...

It was a great game. It was quite late here so I didn't plan to stay up to watch it all, but then I couldn't tear myself away.

A good game; very even; and frankly just as exciting as any NHL game I have watched. I am pretty sure I knew one of the US players when she was 2 or so - the name, age and place are all about right. I think I have her dad's e mail address somewhere so I will check.

The shootout is a lame way to end a hockey game. They should have a "battle royal" where the players throw off their gloves and duke it out on the ice.

Pat Robertson just told me that Canada lost because god punished them for all the gays up there. Well, its what he said.

If you say so. It's like watch more paint dry.
