I didn't even read the article - but JHC, how fucking horrific!

I listened to the radio exchange - that pilot is my new heroine!
I miss the days when a story like this would have dominated the news, instead of nonstop Trump, Trump, Trump. SO DAMN SICK OF HIM!
At least tonight there's a little bit of time allotted to a decent human being - Barbara Bush, RIP.

"We have a part of the aircraft missing," she calmly tells TCA. A crucial part as it turned out -- the port engine. One of only two.The Pilot Who Saved That Southwest Flight Is A Badass
You could here it in her voice, she was coming in with or without the control tower assistance.
Another horribly underpaid, highly qualified, pilot. I hope Southwest recognizes her true talent in the aftermath.

From what I recall, pilots are paid fairly well, especially after moving up through the ranks in a major airline, and most do their jobs well. It's hard to say they're underpaid, as we need a basis for comparison, certainly they are under paid as compared with many investment bankers (then who isn't), but are fairly highly paid as compared with school teachers (then again, many of us are).
It looks like this pilot did her job admirably, and I'm sure Captain Kirk would say to her "You just earned your pay for the week".
