by KATU News

Wednesday, April 25th 2018

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police arrested a suspect accused of stabbing a man in Southeast Portland Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 600 block of Southeast Grand Avenue at 8:15 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a man in his 50s suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance for treatment.

Officers detained one suspect in the investigation.

Investigators say they two men were arguing over using the can recycling machine outside the Jackson’s Shell Gas Station before one man stabbed the other.

Humanity on the brink.

I suspect alcohol may have been involved.

In Portland they have banks of machines which accept and count aluminum cans and glass bottles and then print a chit which you can redeem for cash in an adjacent store. There are often groups of drunks redeeming recycling they have harvested from residential recycling containers. I'm guessing a business dispute while wearing beer glasses.

Thanks for that context, rube...

I could not figure out what would cause two people to have such a heated exchange over a recycling bin...("What are you doing you fool? You can't put a broken iPad in the recycling bin!")

It makes a lot more sense as a fight between two vagrants over money...

When the return value for most beverage cans and bottles went from 5 to 10 cents, grocery workers wryly noted that collectors had their wages double overnight.

Michigan has been at 10 cents as long as I can remember. I believe LR is in Oregon
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

It's still only a nickel in Iowa.  Maybe I should save my bottles and cans until I've got I've got a U-Haul full and then drive up to da Yoo Pee.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

It's illegal and can result in large fines and jail time:
