But I have to admit to feeling a little queasy - I understand how Cohen can be made to give up info if there is reason to believe that a crime has been committed (and yes, I know it's a little more than that) but how can he be made to give up the names of other clients in open court?

My understanding is that he only has to identify clients who claim privilege with regards to the documents seized (and it makes sense since the privilege is for the benefit of the client, not the attorney).

Now that we know that Cohen was reimbursed, despite all we have heard, I would love to know if the payments to Cohen were a business expense (and thus of course deductible from business income for tax purposes) or a personal expense. Enquiring minds want to know.

I think the Rudy disclosure was calculated to eliminate any discussion that the payment to Stormy was an illegal campaign contribution by Cohen. It seems to be fairly well worded to give Trump some deniability ("I gave him a retainer and pool of money to handle these little annoyances that happen to every rich person/celebrity--it was my money, but I didn't really know what it was spent on. Disingenuous? Sure, but then this is Rudy and Trump, who seem to revel in being disingenuous.

I see Drumpf and Giuli as Washington's answer to Siegfried & Roy. They prance around in the spotlight, with all their animals grumbling and growing, and all their splendor, working together but appearing to act alone. And feigned confusion ensues.

Federal investigators have wiretapped the phone lines of Michael Cohen, the longtime personal lawyer for President Donald Trump who is under investigation for a payment he made to an adult film star who alleged she had an affair with Trump, according to two people with knowledge of the legal proceedings involving Cohen.

I have read that Flood really doesn't give a fig about defending Trump, he's only interested in the intellectual exercise of testing legal issues concerning special counsel investigations and subpoena powers; if that's the case, you're not likely to see him shooting his mouth off on Fox. He's also rumored as a potential replacement for White House counsel Don McGahn, who is looking for an exit strategy himself.

NBC corrects Cohen story, removes details on wiretapping

NBC News on Thursday corrected its report that federal agents had placed a wiretap on phone lines associated with President Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

The news outlet updated its initial report to reflect that Cohen’s phones were subject to a "pen register," which allows investigators to create a log of phone calls associated with Cohen’s number.

The distinction is significant. The use of a pen register allows investigators to track incoming and outgoing calls from a number, whereas a wiretap allows investigators to actually listen in on calls.

Josh Blackman, a constitutional law professor at the South Texas College of Law in Houston, said it’s far easier to obtain a pen register than a wiretap.
