It's My Party And I'll Cancel It If I Want To...

Post by Lord Jim »

Especially since almost nobody wants to come:
Trump Is Pursuing a National Anthem–Kneeling Feud With a Team Whose Players Didn’t Kneel During the National Anthem

President A Big Baby announced abruptly on Monday night that he’d disinvited the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles from a planned Tuesday White House celebration on the grounds that they “disagree with their president because he insists that they proudly stand for their National Anthem, hand on heart.”

The casual reader might assume from such language that some members of the Eagles team that won the title had, like other NFL players, knelt during the playing of the national anthem last season to protest police brutality. But it turns out this is not the case: In fact, as a February article in the conservative Washington Times noted, the Eagles were one of only seven NFL teams that didn’t have any players kneel during the anthem over the course of the 2017–18 schedule.

One image of a kneeling Eagles player that’s circulated online since Trump made his announcement is of a cornerback who wasn’t on the team last year; Fox News’ report on the issue featured photos of kneeling Eagles that turned out to have been taken while they were praying, not while the anthem was playing. [Wow, you mean FOX News was dishonestly shilling for Trump? Say it ain't so...](Some black Eagles players did raise their fists during the anthem last year as a gesture of solidarity, but they remained standing while doing so.)

A more likely explanation for the cancellation is that Trump learned that almost no one was going to show up. (Several Eagles players have been critical of Trump in the past, and other athletes have skipped White House appearances for nonpolitical reasons.) This is from a well-connected ESPN reporter:

Five or fewer Eagles players had intended to attend the White House Super Bowl ceremony, a league source tells me.

A recent Wall Street Journal report revealed that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said that Trump told him that the anthem is “a very winning, strong issue” that he will always pursue because the general public supports his position on it. What we’ll see now is if that remains true even when the kneeling players on the other side of the debate exist only in Trump’s mind.

So Il Boobce dishonestly tries to portray this as a dispute with a bunch of "America hating Anthem kneelers", when the fact is they just can't stand to be in his disgusting presence...

I'm just absolutely shocked he would do that...

Kudos to the Eagles players for refusing to help normalize the POS-In-Chief's Presidency...

The one thing that was done wrong here is that they should have told him everyone was coming, and then have just two or three show up.... :ok

Search Google images and you'll find hundreds of Tim Tebow on his knee, disrespecting our military. And he professed to being a christian. His blatant hypocrisy obviously killed his career.

Shameful.

Kneeling; how disrespectful. Damn those people who disrespect god as well by kneeling in church. There's nothing more disrespectful than kneeling.

My take-away from this is that it really doesn't matter how one feels about the anthem protests...

Because this is in no way shape or form what this is about (since none of the Eagles players participated in these protests)...

This is about the members of the Super Bowl Champion football team deciding pretty much en masse (for a variety of personal reasons) that they found meeting with the so-called President so odious that they would all prefer to be elsewhere...

And about President Dumbshit finding this fact so embarrassing that he has to pretend that it's really about something else...

I heard they were all washing their hair.

Seriously, it was obvious that from the outset Trump had planned to make the visit a propaganda show for his dumbass war on NFL player protests, by having the Iggles stand with him during the playing of the national anthem. And the Birds were Not. Having. It. Good for them! And good for America. Now if only the NFL owners (I'm looking at you, Jeff Lurie) would tell Trump explicitly to fuck the fuck off and keep his fat orange face out of their sportsball business.
GAH!

If either the Cavs or the Warriors win the NBA title, both teams said they would not wish to appear at the WH.
