On this movie, he (Hitchcock) terrify actors. He locked them in room, he throw, he throw birds at them. Real birds! Nasty stuff. The actors, they crack every day. But this movie win every award. Is Mr. Hitchcock bad man? No. He great director!

Re: Name That Movie!
While 1992 movies seem like recent films to many of us, let's go with an actual recent movie starring two brothers, who are in the biz. My guess is that if you saw this it will come easy, otherwise you will need to play the clue game which may be a catastrophe for creative types.
PLEASE... Name That Movie!

No to that one Ray. Next quote:
G: [to Carolyn, after she fainted on the set] Can I ask you something? Why do you do it? You've got a husband, grand-kids. You live fifty miles out of town. And you're waking up at 5, driving all this way, for what?
Carolyn: We're actors, G. For you, me, people like us, even the worst day on a movie set is better than the best day doing anything else.

That “octagonal 18” label seems more aspirational than factual.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Name That Movie!
Oh Meade, you just missed . . . by a mile.
The two lead characters in this movie take inspiration from an iconic 1950s movie star. And each of these acting brothers bears more than a small resemblance to this iconic actor, and in fact, one of them played the role of the iconic actor in a TV biopic movie.

Next quote from this incredible screen play:
I did not hit her. It's not true. It's bullshit! I did not hit her. I did not. Oh, hi Mark.

Just like LaMotta, that was a rare miss for you Ray. Here is another quote, with a cameo from Judd Apatow.
Judd: It's not going to happen for you. Not in a million years!
Tommy: But after that?
Re: Name That Movie!
I had to look this one up, but now that I have, it's on my "definite watch" list...
(As is the movie this movie is about; a friend of mine who knows what an aficionado of truly awful movies I am recommended it as a must see a while back, but I forgot about it.)

No way that one is a classic.

Re: Name That Movie!
Seems like BigRR is the only one to have seen this one? Yes, this movie is akin to Ed Wood. It hit the theaters at the end of 2017 (and I caught it on a long plane flight) and was well received by critics but only had modest ticket sale numbers.
Re: Name That Movie!
I was interested in this Oscar nominated film because it sounds very quirky which is right up my alley - but it stars one of the Hollywood men with a gross reputation, in this case for seducing minor girls - so he’s on my no watch list.
That’s my hint.
[Also on] my no watch list:
Woody Allen movies
Tom Cruise movies
Mel Gibson movies (I still haven’t watched The Beaver, as much as I’d like to)
Johnny Depp movies
That’s my hint.

Re: Name That Movie!
I DVR'd the 'R--m' movie but have not yet watched it. My wife said it was rubbish. Now I've been googling about the current mystery-flick I've decided to delete the 'R--m' movie and save myself from validating Margaretta's wisdom.
Maybe I'll rent this one instead:

Re: Name That Movie!
You say that like it's a bad thing...it was rubbish
The first IMDB review for The R**m is absolutely hilarious (WARNING: Spoilers!
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368226/re ... ef_=tt_urv
Come on now, who wouldn't want to see a flick after it got a review like that?
One excerpt:
The movie has an IMDB rating of 3.6...If you took the greatest filmmakers in history and gave them all the task of purposefully creating a film as spectacularly horrible as this not one of them, with all their knowledge and skill, could make anything that could even be considered as a contender. Not one line or scene would rival any moment in The R**m.
(To put that rating in perspective, Plan 9 From Outer Space manages to get a 4.0, and My Mother The Car has a 4.7...)

Re: Name That Movie!
BSG--unless I missed something, I don't think any of your no watch list were in the movie--certainly not in a starring role (there were a number of cameos). I think I know who you are referring to, however, and I respect your position in avoiding his movies on principle.
And as for the movie, it was nominated for an Oscar (and I think won a Golden Globe--but then so did Pia Zadora); I personally didn't like it. IMHO, it's tough to make a comedy like this, and I think it failed where Ed Wood (similarly themed) succeeded. I quickly became annoyed with the characters and then bored, but it was moderately popular and made money.
Jim--as for The R**M, if you do see it let us know what you think. Just because something is panned, doesn't make it good. I suffered through Plan 9 From Outer space and wouldn't watch it again, but didn't mind Glen or Glenda; if you lke watchable schlock, I recommend Chained for Life (a murder movie with a Siamese twin shooter--how could the court condemn the shooter to death when the other was innocent?). there's good schlock and terrible schlock...

Re: Name That Movie!
I apologize for any confusion, I thought it was clear that the no watch list was in addition to the hinted at but not clearly stated ‘star’ of this film.

No, that makes sense then; thanks.
