(World Cup) - lovely comment in The Guardian

Post by ex-khobar Andy »

The Guardian reports on Germany's 1 - 0 loss to Mexico.

Lovely comment from one ZellHolland:

"If only there was a word to describe the pleasure I'm feeling at Germany's loss."

I've been trying to figure out some way to care about who wins this thing, with the US not in the competition...

I had decided that my team would be WETPAR (What Ever Team's Playing Against Russia) since I don't really care about who wins, but I still care about who loses...(If Ukraine were in the competition, I'd be rooting for them)

But now I think I'll root for Mexico, just because I'm sure their winning the World Cup would piss off Trump... :ok

Even given that this is the U.S. which is centered on itself, this has got to be the least coverage/interest in World Cup since the 1980s. I assume it merits a top half story in sports elsewhere, especially with England into the semis. No one is talking about it, weird.

Never mind. Work Cup is trivia. The important thing is the Tour de France started today, with Cris From crashing, Team Time Trial Monday.

Congrats to England on 2-0 their win over Sweden...

I guess since there's an "England" team rather than a "United Kingdom" team this is another one of those deals, (like that misnamed "Nations" thing) where the British get three teams (England, Scotland, Wales) while every other sovereign country only gets one...

But of course since today they're playing Russia...

Flipped the game on a minute ago, just in time to see the Croats tie it up at 1-1 :ok

Took the lad and the pooches out for an airing, fully expecting this would be over when I returned...

2-2 tie after 90 minutes regulation plus 30 minutes OT...

Going to be decided on penalty kicks...

In your face, Russkies:
Croatia Crushes Russia’s 2018 World Cup Dream

Croatia wins it over Russia on penalties in their quarterfinal match in the 2018 World Cup. Croatia will face England, which beat Sweden earlier in the day, in the semifinal.

Now that is a reason to take notice of the Coppa del Mondo.

Somewhere in Siberia, or with a nerve agent in England?

What with events over here recently, the England squad had a second kit lined up ready in case they had to play Russia.

Vive la France!

And my Swiss boyfriend! And le Tour ( although it really only watch the coverage for the travelogue ode to la belle France. The cyclists are all effing cheaters and I don’t trust any of them any more).

Hey, how about a Croatia/Belgium World Cup Final?

That would really send the TV ratings through the roof...

With three minutes left in regulation, it's 1-1 between Croatia and England...

Looks like we're headed for another OT...(The game is on FOX btw, for anyone who's interested...)
