Re: Music recommendations
Probably hopelessly behind on this, but recorded a best of Austin City Limits, and this was the best thing that Don Henley performed (which is saying more than nothing):

And here is Tina Turner, again, a few years earlier -- similarly high energy.

Thanks RT. One of the great power voices of all time.

It is one of my all time favorite renditions and performances -- and probably in the top 10.Long Run wrote:Thanks RT. One of the great power voices of all time.
I get mesmerized every time I play it.
John Lennon and Tina Turner -- products of an unforgettable crack in time that created sounds I'll probably be listening to in my head as I draw my last breath.
And life was good.

I saw Tina Turner here at the Catalyst before the "Private Dancer" era moved her into arenas. Wow. She is nasty and I mean that in the very best way possible.

Gracie Slick's best solo effort... IMHO. (Best with studio headphones.)

Ooh, ooh, here is one that I listen to just last night.
Mark Knopfler (with Dire Straits) in all of his underrated elegance. That guitar... beautifully haunting for the piece, and stay with the fade out.

Best. Sax. Tune. Ever.
I recently came across this on YouTube, and one of the comments suggested that, in the Trump era, this ought to be the US national anthem. Yup.
ETA: OOH! OOH! Even better: the Presidential Anthem, replacing "Hail to the Chief"!!!

I heard this earlier tonight and it brought back some fond, misty eyed, memories.

Here is a guilty pleasure -- a melancholy Freddie Fender, with an artsy, la femme, montage.
Sorry, Doris.

Guin, how old is that Springsteen-Melissa Etheridge clip? They look so young! That was really nice.
This is a song by St. Vincent. It's very good. Stick around for the guitar solo.

And now for something completely different!
Time for biology class, boys and girls. Today's lesson, Carl Linnaeus and the nested hierarchy of Linnaean taxonomy. Who knew binomial nomenclature could be so interesting, and so hilarious?
The Vox Hunters, that's who!

Saw this chap live last night. Not really my cuppa, sometimes verging on...ick....country. But a great musician, and his more trad folk stuff is worth a listen.

The Minack
The Minack Theatre may look a great deal like half a Roman amphitheatre but it was actually built by one woman, her gardener and his mate. Rowena Cade originally built a small stage and a few terraces at the end of her garden, overlooking the Atlantic ocean near Land’s End in Cornwall, in 1932 to stage a production of The Tempest. It turned out to be such an ideal venue that she continued to add to and improve it as an outdoor theatre until 1983 when she died.

Here's an oldie but goody.
This was performed by Leo Burt at the 1966 Monsignor Bonner High School's Senior Talent Show. After this his life got complicated.
