SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — President Donald Trump on Tuesday repeatedly mocked Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers, despite having said just days ago that he found her Senate testimony last week "very credible."

In a one-man reenactment of Ford's appearance before the Judiciary Committee, with his voice alternating between an impression of her and of her inquisitor, Trump challenged the veracity of the testimony that paused his nominee's confirmation.

The extended ridicule of Ford, delivered at the Landers Arena in deeply conservative DeSoto County, stood in stark contrast to the respectful way in which Trump and his aides had previously treated her testimony, even as they have stood by Kavanaugh and his assertion that he never assaulted her.

"I had one beer!" Trump said, characterizing Ford's testimony about her level of intoxication as a teenager when she says she was attacked at a small get-together in Montgomery County, Md., in the early 1980s.

"How did you get home?" the president asked, taking on the role of prosecutor.

"I don't remember," he said in his Ford voice.

"How did you get there?" Trump continued in his reenactment of the Senate hearing.

"I don't remember," he replied in the Ford voice.

Trump then mockingly asked and answered a series of questions with the responses "I don't remember" and "I don't know."

One thing Ford did remember clearly — which Trump didn't mention — is that she was "100 percent" certain that it was Kavanaugh who had attacked her.

The crowd in this county, which favored Trump 65 percent to 31 percent in 2016, cheered with gusto in the midst of his banter with himself.

"A man’s life is shattered," the president said of Kavanaugh after making fun of Ford's testimony. "These are really evil people."

Michael Bromwich, an attorney for Ford, called Trump's performance "a vicious, vile and soulless attack" and said the president is "a profile in cowardice." [don't see anything to disagree with there...]

I saw clips of that event;and although i did not see 'lock her up' reported, it's clear (again and as always) that the man is a total fucking turd. What's worse, and I said this back in November 2016, is that we have always known that such men exist but we have never known that they would get so much support. A few percent of the population - maybe 5% or so would have been my guess before 2016 - might be expected to support a narcissistic sexist racist self-made billionaire (yes, I know) who tells it like it is (beyond a joke) but the truth is that he still has the support of some large portion of the country. And that continues to be the most horrific thing about all this.

I don't actually think he was ever in the habit of grabbing women by the genitals. I think that he wanted us to believe that he was the sort of person who could do so and get away with it. I had a colleague for years who continually dropped hints that he was fiddling his expense report. I don't think that he actually did. One, because we had a pretty good system for ensuring that the reports were accurate, and secondly because it was enough for him that he had the reputation of being a bit of a scoundrel. Obviously a different scale, but a similar mentality.

LJ, I’m relying on reporting - I don’t watch his rallies myself. It was reported by a pundit on either CNN or MSNBC, and then this is in the reporting today:

The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman noted the crowd at the “Make America Great Again” rally revived its “lock her up” chant for Dr. Ford.

It’s on Haberman’s Twitter feed, but I can’t get the tweet itself to copy/paste here - go look it up.

I don’t think Trump INITIATED the chant, but it’s a distinction without a difference because he ridiculed her extensively and suggested her behavior in reporting her assault was destroying Kavanaugh’s life & family.
