My state, which has pretty strict DUI laws, won't even require periodic retesting of vision for drivers license renewal due to public pressure (they di for a while and it stopped). Of course, if they did that, they ight have to address public transportation needs of the communities, and no one wants to find that.

It may be seen as an inconvenience, or even ageism, but drivers my age and older should have mandatory testing -- at least once every two years. There's nothing worse than old people who will argue they're just as agile and aware as they were at thirty years old.
