Name that tune!

Post by Timster »

Ok. There were some fun threads on the old CSB like "Let's get this fun ball rolling" and such.

And people from all political persuasions seemed to put aside differences to participate.

And reading through lately it seems that you all have a Ginormous stick up your arses. SO.

I thought that we needed another such thread.

NAME THAT TUNE!

Here is the premise: One person posts a snippet of a lyric of a song and then folks try to guess the song.

When someone gets the song correct; they get to suggest the next snippet. Simple.

Now for the fine print: when someone gets too obscure and/or obtuse; if three posters cry "UNCLE" then the originator must fess up to the song and come up with a new lyrical snippet. Just to keep things moving along.

IF a poster should happen to post 3 consecutive "UNCLE" snippets...We have to terminate them with extreme prejudice. Just so as to keep the game friendly.
(And as always; Try not to google first before giving it some thought. K? )

Are you ready? Cool. I'll start with an easy one just to get us going: 8-)

And Forward he cried from the rear the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side.

Too easy Timster... :)

"Us and them" Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd.

You should add "no Googling" as a rule, and it should be a song which made some impact in the US & UK & Aus..

Here you go..

Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?
"
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

Down Under, Men at Work. Album: Business as Usual (way easy)

Another easy one:

So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we aint that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You aint a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me
“I ask no favor for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.” ~ Ruth Bader Ginsburg, paraphrasing Sarah Moore Grimké

Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road

The radio is playing some forgotten song
Brenda Lee's "Coming on Strong"
The road has got me hypnotized
And I'm speeding into a new sunrise
If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.

Easy one! "Radar Love" - Golden Earring/White Lion

Hard one:
Once upon a time was a backbeat,
Once upon a time all the chords came to life
And the angels had guitars even before they had wings
If you hold onto a chorus you can get through the night...

(And when you figure it out, watch the video...it's amazing!)

You can't run away forever Jaraxle, because rock and roll dreams come through. So don't let your meat loaf. :D

Shine hard October moon
Eagle take me to her soon
Run swiftly silver stream
Find my love or let me dream

We must have similar taste Timster (and be of similar age). Been a while since I heard (or thought) of Uriah Heep.
Try this

I've tried hard to live without you, in so many ways.
I just can't help myself from thinking of you, for the rest of my days.
Heartache is at my door step, won't leave me alone.
I just can't get used to it, now that I'm on my own.

Mean Mistreater by Grand Funk Railroad

There's Comfort in my coffee cup, apples in the early fall
We're pullin' all the moorings up, and gatherin' at the Legion Hall
Swept away all the streamers after the Labor Day parade
Ain't nothin' left for a dreamer now, only one final serenade...

Famous last words- Bill Joel

Thank you Jarl. I really should keep track of my own thread. And You are right Oldr on both accounts. :D

Ok. I was intending to get really obscure on your asses; until I realized that Weather Report doesn't have a lot of "Lyrics". LOL

No prob. Try this one:

Cold wind blows
The Gods look down in anger
On this poor child

Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower. (Full credit to Liz for that one.)

And also credit Liz for this one...
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring through my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

La Isla Bonita - Madonna

The Milky Way Express is loaded, all aboard
I promise each and every one of you you won't be bored
What I'm really concerned about
Is my brand new pair of butterfly roller skates
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Geez, guess that one was too easy.

Laughing Sam's Dice, Hendrix (credit to my friend who has inflicted way too much Hendrix on me)

OK, this one should be harder...
I get up on Sunday, 'bout eight-fifteen
Jes' to get the paper, that I never read
'Cause I know she'll be there barely in her robe
Sittin' on her front porch paintin' on her toes
Her husband's always on the road

It's familiar... I'm 99% sure it's a country song but that's all I've got!
