I think there is blame on both sides but you also had people that were not very good people, on both sides.

My 'thought experiment' when considering this kind of situation, what happens when the cops drive up and see one guy holding a gun on another?

The video embedded in my link showed exactly what happened, if you’d like to see for yourself. But essentially the responsibile gun owner immediately raised his hands when the trooper approached and then followed exactly the directions of the officer, who initially restrained and cuffed him, putting him to the ground, then released him without charge once the participants and witnesses explained that he was a Good Samaritan who had contained the driver who wouldn’t stop.
