I hope SCOTUS does the right thing when this challenge reaches their bench.

Old white men making life altering decisions for what amounts to a women's health issue.

Their hypocrisy is going to be palpable, and sickening. And worse? I can already hear Lord Dampnut gloating and pontificating about another success.

I have queries about the reasoning of various proponents of the recent inacted and proposed state regulation on abortion.

1. Just what does it mean that abortion is banned when a heartbeat may be detected? For a 23 year old human who has attempted suicide by hanging but was cut down before the heart stopped beating, and the heart is still beating now, 4 days later (an actual event for a family within my circle of friends) but is now brain dead and all local medical advice says they will remain brain dead--is it murder to remove life support? What is the principle applied here? Abortion is the human intervention to remove the life support system for this unborn person (according to the new law in Alabama). How is it different to remove the life support system 23 years after birth?

2. Biological science informs that many times the unborn person old enough to have a heart beat is spontaneously removed from the womb without any observable action by the human carrying that person in their womb. It just seems like an ordinary menstruation, perhaps with with heavier flow or atypical pain. Under this law should every used sanitary pad be examined by experts to evaluate for the presence of human remains to be processed like the remans of any other dead human being?

3. What is the status of the IUD? Why the special consideration at detectable heart beat? As referenced in question one, in many jurisdictions death is not determined only by the presence or absence of a heart beat. Why is it the determination for the beginning of life? Is the function of the IUD to end a life before detection of a heartbeat? Should IUDs be considered legally banned because their only function is to kill the cells before the heartbeat begins?

Response from sincere 'right to life' believers is desired.

I have always been a somewhat conservative leaning libertarian as an adult, but this abortion bullshit is about to push me to the left for voting. Fuck Georgia and Alabama. Just fuck them. Please democrats, find someone that I can pinch my nose shut and vote for, please.

I wonder if the Republicans voting for these draconian abortion laws have any comprehension of how they are playing into the hands of the Democrats...

(I tend to doubt it; self actualization is not a distinguishing trait for that lot...)

When the abortion debate is focused on late term or partial birth abortions, it's a loser for Democrats because solid majorities of voters are opposed...

But when the focus turns (as it has, thanks to this spate of votes for abortion bills that are unlikely to hold up in court) to the other end of the spectrum...the issue of exemptions based on rape and incest...

It's a big winner for the Dems because these exemptions are overwhelmingly supported by the public...

It's even having a spillover effect across the border. The Liberals and NDP are raising the spectre of a Conservative government legislating draconian restrictions on abortion, and it seems to be resonating.
