I’m allowing myself a scant 10% profit margin. I have three plants ($3.99 each from Lowes) which I have watered (misted) every second day for three months for six minutes. So far I have one tomato which weighed in at a colossal 15 grams.

When I was working my company used to bill me out at $150 per hour.

So the cost for one tomato is:

($3.99 x 3) + (45 x 0.1 x 150) = $686.97.

15 grams is 30 to the pound so the cost to me is $20,609.10 per pound. My proposed 10% profit gives me a price, to you, $22,670.01. Because I am a decent sort of chap, I am willing to forego the odd penny. I will even throw in free 2-day shipping.

I see a few nascent tomatoes on one of the vines. I am confident that that price will come down in the end to just four figures.

Yeah, I've got chicken eggs that are $347 a dozen without a markup for profit. I keep the cost so low because the chooks feed and water themselves.

I have about 20 bucks, all told , sunk into my garden this year. not counting labour, and I m giving the stuff away.....

my crabs are running me about 7.50 per dozen, and I give most of them away too.

I ll probably regret not squirreling it all away for winter....

...god only knows if the zombie apocalypse is coming.
