No, but if you were counting you would say seventeen hundred, eighteen hundred and nineteen hundred... you wouldn't say twenty hundred (I hope...)

I do "Two Thousand" unless I am referring to budget issues or financial years, in which case it is "Twenty Ten - Eleven" or "Twenty Ten - Twenty Eleven",

I am looking forward to being able to use the phrase "Twenty Twenty - Twenty Twenty One".



Actually, forget that. I do not want to be working in "Two Thousand and Twenty" so I am NOT looking forward to saying that at all!

As Scooter points out, we only went to the long version with the year 2000. And in most cases we didn’t say nineteen ninety nine, we said ninety nine.

So twenty ten is still longhand and eventually it will be the year eleven.

Interesting maybe, but the French use “and one” after the first multiple of ten (once they reach twenty (vingt et un).

But after that it is dropped (vingt deux, vingt trios…)

I'm just glad all the preprinted stuff just has a space for 'Date:_________ ' and doesn't have '_______ 19__' that used to be such a pain, when you were writing forcasts into the next millennium.

I put both options in as 'Two Thousand and Ten' is the same as 'Two Thousand Ten' but in proper (British) English.
