Now Auditioning for a Senior Citizen Boy Band....

Post by Joe Guy »

I watched a 20/20 show last night about Lou Pearlman, who was a major con artist and the creator of the Back Street Boys and other Boy Bands that I never heard of. So, today I woke up with a great money-making idea of my own. It will make millions but of course I'll need sponsors, donations and talent.

We need 5 senior citizens with good personalities, good enough voices and the ability to stand up and bust some moves without a walker (or a minimal need for one, depending on the amount of candidates that show up).

I volunteer myself, so we only need 4 more. Of course, tryouts will narrow things down but I'm a judge.

First, it's always a good idea to come up with a name for the group to get people inspired. I've only thought of three, so far.

Out aSync
Backed up Boyz
Old Farts on the Block

Any marketing ideas are welcome. We will be rich, I just know it. The time is right!

Thanks in advance for your support!

How about: The Who?

Well.... We would be the first Boy Band with a "Girl", but we might be able to make it work. The choral experience is a plus. I'll get back to ya'....

The Who? is taken, sort of... by some already famous senior citizens but I'll put it on the list.

Thank you for your interest....

How about "The Incontinentals" for a name?

"Irregulars" might be a little vague, "Bobby and the Pacemakers"? "Gummy Bears? "I'm in you're in"

Those are all very good. Gummy Bears reminds me of Gums N' Noses, which I saw someone say on TV long ago when Guns N' Roses were first popular.

xK-A, you inspired another band name: "The Meat Loafers" (no 'blue pills' available for this performance)

Just to clarify, I need to know if you'll be one of the good two or the other one. Either way it will help a lot if you can find some highly rich investors for our band.

ETA: As a variation on rubato's suggestion, I want to consider the name Geriatric and the Pacemakers.

As a newly-minted senior citizen (I hit the big six-five two and a half weeks ago), I could probably be the 'youngster' of the group.  I can still sing a passable bass, and I guess I could learn to bust a move if I had to ... although if it didn't work out I would probably end up busting an ankle instead.

As for a name, how about "The Back-Then Boys"?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I'm not sure if there's still a market for all your greatest hits from Stephen Foster and the Christy Minstrels. And black face is no longer as entertaining as it was back then. You'd need to call your group "The Way-Way-Back-Then Boys."

I especially like ''The Hip Replacements". And to Bicycle Bill, if you can work your bike into the act, you could be a top candidate for the job. We could call you Recycled Bill.

I was in a garage band a few years back called the Basement Boomers (lead vocalist and special percussion--tambourine, etc.; never played any real instrument); it's not around anymore so you could take that name. Not quite as funny, but likely true.
