Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I remember when I was in my early teens and thinking about how things are going to be much different by the time we reach the year 2000. I recall thinking that whatever great technology there will be I'll be too old to enjoy it.

I said, TOO OLD TO ENJOY IT!

Go away son, you bother me. Get off my... I say, GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Me, I remember when (1968) Kubrick's film '2001' was really thought to be possible. Now we are surrounded by metaphorical and actual "I'm Sorry Dave, I can't do that."

It's not a new decade. 2020 is the last year of the first decade of the 2000's. Dammit. Do we have to go through this every nine years?

Um, the last year of the SECOND decade of the 2000s, I think you mean? :nana

I remember being about 10 years old (so in 1975 or thereabouts) and I was calculating how old everyone in my family would be in 2000. I was going to be 35 and that seemed too old to imagine what my life would be like.

Well, at the height of the HIV epidemic one thing comes to mind -- better living through chemistry, maybe?

Well yes, if the right drugs hadn't come along, I wouldn't have made it to 35.

That's a really weathered sign. You'd think the town's government would take better care of it.

Our daughter started feeling ill at 5.30 pm on NYE. 7.30pm we took her to hospital. Novovirus. She was admitted, we got home at 4.00 am.

I woke up at 8.00 am to find that our sewage pump was blocked, and sewage was backed up to the house. Hen has gone to the hospital to see Hatch, I've got the pump to fix.

Welcome to 2020.

I hope Hatch is feeling better soon.

As for the sewage, have you looked into installing one of those thingamabobs that prevent backflow into the house?

Our system wouldn't take one.. Normally I can catch it, I inspect the sump every day. I missed out on doing it over the last couple of days then this happens!

Best wishes to Hatch - and that no one else gets it.

Norovirus is contagious as heck. Spray everything she touched with lysol. Hell, spray yourself with lysol. Never mind, if you are prone to get it you will by now anyway.

Sincere wishes that Hatch experiences only a mild bout with her illness and makes a full and speedy recovery.

Now, if we can go back a few posts to the discussion about whether or not 2020 is the start of the decade or not —

Mr Hammer cannot be blamed for the ignorance of the masses. Error is not evidence of accuracy.

For example, it is a well-known fact that neurosurgeons do not scream for cat's feet and iron claws, despite claims to the contrary. Not even in the 21st Century which began January 1, 2001.
