Justin Trudeau is in isolation at the PM's residence, pending test results for his wife who has a fever and cough after returning from the UK. Jagmeet Singh, the NDP leader, is also feeling unwell and has self-quarantined.

Kids coming home from college -- they're going to try to do as much online assignments as possible (have to make a facile case for continuing tuition payments). Graduation ceremonies will certainly be postponed, at least for the late April to May events.

I just went to the grocery store in the hour before closing to get recipe ingredients and a few other things.

OMG! The shelves were decimated! On my way out a young gal collecting baskets was looking at Riley in my car - she has an adorable habit of sitting in the driver’s seat and watching the doors, and if you speak to her she tilts her head back and forth and she has a ridiculously cute freckled face, people fall in love with her at first sight - so I opened the back window so she could pet the dog (on the other side of the car, so we were 6’ apart) and we chatted a bit and she said ALL DAY LONG there had been long lines at every register, people buying two and three carts full of food and household supplies like Armageddon was coming tomorrow. She said it was VERY tense and she was grateful for some dog love to ease the stress of her day.

There isn’t a single tissue of any kind left in the store and no paper towels and no bottled water and no cold medicines of any kind and no cleaning wipes and very few cleaning products with any kind of antibacterial labeling. It’s INSANE. I asked one of the staff and she said they don’t know if they’ll even get more of any of that stuff with the next truck. Much of the food was decimated too, it was crazy. I sure hope these panic shoppers don’t keep shopping over and over and over in the weeks to come - I have 6 rolls of TP left before I’ll have to switch to handheld bidet in the absence of more.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if we’d had a speech from our leader that instilled confidence in people, but an appropriate level of caution too. Instead he was garbled and crazed as usual and most folks are freaking out because all their sports just got cancelled and Disneyland is closed and to them that means ARMAGEDDON!

On another note, The Beat with Ari Melber on MSNBC tonight had an interesting conversation with my old law professor Neal Katyal on the legalities surrounding government powers vis a vis quarantine restrictions.

Interestingly, the recommendation was that he not be tested as he is exhibiting no symptoms, but that he should remain in isolation for 14 days.

IOW, the same protocol is being used for the PM as for any average person. No playing favorites.

There's a comment in the Guardian BTL (not me) which deserves wider circulation:

Pence will attempt to pray his way out of it, Trump's family will attempt to shoot their way out of it, and Giuliani will try to bribe his way out of it.

I'm backing coronavirus against them all

Well my largest client just shut down their schools, libraries, rec programs, and community center, and are advising local boards to not hold meetings for a while. We have Town Meeting/budget season coming up, and the end of the fiscal year approaching, and have to make decisions about what to do about that in the next few days.

Midnight here and I just finished my last memo, for today (literally *and* figuratively). I’ve been practicing Coronavirus law all day and most of the last week. It looks like that’s going to continue. Tomorrow is another day, with more emergencies!
