An intensive care audit has revealed that the majority of those affected by coronavirus are male by a strong majority of 71 per cent.

According to the Observer, a report from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC), has counted the admissions to critical care units from the start of the crisis until midnight last Thursday.

The numbers of patients in the UK needing treatment for the coronavirus has doubled every three days since the pandemic began and the NHS could soon be overwhelmed by patients.

Despite warnings that the virus mainly affects the elderly, the median age was only 64 with 37 per cent of patients were under 60.

Coronavirus patients needing the highest level of help soared from 50 on the 9th March to almost 200 on 19th March with London bearing the brunt of these admissions.

Senior doctors are now concerned this dramatic increase could be seen nationwide within a few weeks and are warning hospitals outside the capital to prepare for an influx of patients.

My personal theory? The virus chiefly attacks the lungs, and men over 60 are more likely to be smokers than women, thereby exacerbating the problem.

How's this for poetic justice:
Rand Paul becomes first US senator to test positive for coronavirus

Sen. Rand Paul has tested positive for the coronavirus, he announced on Twitter Sunday.

"Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19," Paul wrote on Twitter. "He is feeling fine and is in quarantine. He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events. He was not aware of any direct contact with any infected person."

"He expects to be back in the Senate after his quarantine period ends and will continue to work for the people of Kentucky at this difficult time," the tweet said.

According to the tweet, no staff has had contact with Paul since his D.C. office began working remotely 10 days ago.
Gee whiz, I guess this means good ol' Rand wont be in the senate to try to throw every delay he can think of against the pending aid package...

That's a damn shame...

Yep! Autoimmune issues too. In your situation look up zinc acetate.

You'd think - Rand Paul being a doctor and all, as he keeps reminding us, he would recognize that COVID-19 is the disease caused by the virus which is informally referred to as coronavirus and more formally as SARS-CoV-2 or variants. (Think AIDS and HIV for a more-or-less equivalent.).

So he has tested positive for the virus and not, if he is asymptomatic, for the disease.

I don't wish this virus on anyone, so I hope he recovers. But I am pleased that he is not on the Senate floor for his usual idiocies.

Maybe his buddy Mitch - our other Senator - can go around to Rand's place and hold his hand and offer words of comfort. The man probably could use a hug.

Two more states join the lock down club:
Ohio and Louisiana latest states to order residents to stay home during coronavirus outbreak

by Caitlin Yilek

Ohio and Louisiana are mandating all residents stay at home to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The director of Ohio's Department of Public Health signed the state's order Sunday, and the shelter-in-place order goes into effect Monday night until April 6.

“It does permit exceptions to staying home. Common sense exceptions: leaving for health and safety, for necessary supplies and services, for outdoor activity (walking your dog, going to a park -- although playgrounds are closed). You can leave home to take care of others. You can take care of your neighbor, your family, your friend,” Republican Gov. Mike DeWine tweeted.

Louisiana issued a similar order on Sunday, which is set to take effect Monday evening and allows residents to leave their homes only for "essential needs." The state has seen more than 800 cases of the COVID-19 virus and 20 deaths from it.

New Jersey, California, New York, Illinois, Connecticut, and several cities have also issued shelter-in-place orders.

Our state liquor stores are doing a brisk business. Saw a post the other day that by the end of this half of us are going to be excellent chefs and the other half will be alcoholics. Though, I don't know why some can't be both.

I thought being an alcoholic was pretty much one of the REQUIREMENTS for being an excellent chef. ;)

We have been watching Julia child in original black and white on prime. She supposedly was frequently a bit tipsy though any drinking she did was off camera. I remember the galloping gourmet Graham Kerr, who seemed to always tipple while cooking.

The politicians mentioned above all are realistic results for the 'mushroom' political philosophy--Bury 'em in shit and keep 'em in the dark.

If the president and his faithful minions actually believed what they are saying, I would not see them before news cameras, with their faithful lapdogs, all standing less than six feet apart.

Coronavirus: White supremacists planned to use virus as a bioweapon
Federal law enforcement warned that white supremacist terrorists had considered weaponising coronavirus through saliva-filled spray bottles and contaminating non-white neighbourhoods with the virus, according to intelligence briefings.

A brief from the Federal Protective Service written last month reported that white supremacists on the encrypted messaging app Telegram discussing spending "as much time as possible in public places with their 'enemies'" to transmit the virus.

They also plotted targeting law enforcement by leaving "saliva on door handles" and elevator buttons at government offices.

I have figured out the reason for the shortage of chicken in the grocery stores.
