Oh I believer her Guin - just, she didn't say "ruined" AFAIK. I quoted her as saying her career was "derailed" and "hurt". Nor did she need to "imagine barely being able to work". She's had plenty of work, even if some people consider it to be low-class apparently. She's not given to hyperbole, I guess.

She's also a highly intelligent and brave person.

Mira Sorvino is an American actress who has an estimated net worth of $16 million dollars.
It's more than a pity she didn't get hundreds of millions but she's not rooting through dumpsters for a meal.

Oh fuck off with all the sideswipes at me already - and I NEVER called her work low class, you arsehole.

It’s not about how much she’s worth, whatever YOUR framework for success might be pinned to. It’s about her being a really talented actor who was denied very good roles that she had every right to have an honest shot at - but was denied because she wouldn’t fuck an ugly nasty rapist. That is fucked up, period. And yes, her career was very much derailed. Same as Ashley Judd, another terrific actor who saw her access to prime roles dry up at a time when she was otherwise very bankable. They are also both very attractive women who would typically fit every criteria for wild success in Hollywood apart from having run up against Harvey.

It’s fucking sad to see the backhanded defense of this sick bastard by some of the so-called men here. Really fucking disappointing.

Unfortunately some men will always look up to the predator as what they aspire to be. That being an unrepentant womanizer, one who treats women as objects to be controlled, dominated, used... is just "how men should be". They can't get it through their thick skulls that exerting sexual dominance over an unwilling person IS rape, and is wrong. Or that using their position of power to coerce their targets, or destroy the careers of the ones who push back is wrong.

They defend guys like that because they wish they were that guy. I wish that sending scum like HW to prison would get the message across, but there are a hell of a lot more of them out there.

Veiled? I thought not. But you do seem to insist on taking possession of remarks (above) that have nothing to do with you. And yes, it's not fair, it was wrong, the people he abused and sought to abuse deserved better. But steady work in one's field and $16 million isn't a bad return and I will not consider it evidence of "ruin".

I thought LJ provided a balanced view of "ruined", although to say Sorvino's work was mostly guest appearances in TV shows seems odd in view of the 45 movies since 1995 which is not exactly a dearth of film work. [Upon reflection, rubato and LJ are right; I've only seen 2 of those 45; her part in Reservation Road wasn't big and as a movie GodsandGenerals was Godawful]

I've made it clear that Weinstein deserves every minute of his sentence and I hope he serves it all (minus time off for death). I have also stated that both Sorvino and Judd suffered in their careers under Weinstein/Miramax efforts to restrict their access to roles, LOTR being the most obvious (and the only one AFAIK that any director has coughed up to).

Guin accused me of not taking these women at their word regarding the effect on their careers when I stated the exact opposite. I quoted their comments and accepted them as true. Neither claimed to have been "ruined" but again, LJ made a good point about that.

Let's all agree, Weinstein is thoroughly reprehensible and for years was enabled by the establishment (which is mostly attached to Hollywood one way or another) to hurt, harm, assault and attack women and their careers. Good riddance to him and all those like him.

Not enough virtue flag mileage in that for some.
