Look it up. You're welcome. That's my good deed for the day.

Oh look, now Darren got a medical degree off the back of a matchbook cover.

Re: Zinc Acetate
Close.
I got mine out of a box of Cheerios at the same time I got deeds to several square inches of Alaskan land out of another cereal box.
As I said, look it up ... or not.
In reality either that or another worked for me for almost twenty years after reading about it in a book by the guy who patented keeping a human head alive.

Re: Zinc Acetate
Darren, you planning on teaming up with Rev. Jimbo (like dumbo) Baker?
Zinc is not magical (in fact it is easily possible to over dose on it), covid19 is not a cold.
WASHING YOUR HANDS FOR THE PROPER LENGTH OF TIME IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE MEASURE IN PREVENTING COVID-19 INFECTION
And don't pick your nose.

I'm not going to stop picking my nose and eating the finger icing. It's kept me tip top for decades.

Re: Zinc Acetate
I recall that patent; it issued sometime in the 1980s and was pretty much considered to bes a joke or prank. The inventor identified himself using a pseudonym which made the patent invalid (as the inventor must be identified in the US), and he also claimed to be a patent attonrney, which is hard to believe because any patent attorney would realize that. One theory was that he filed and prosecuted the patent application to illustrate how broken the patent system is--that pretty much anything could be patented, but I don't recall anyone ever coming forward and claiming that (the attorney si listed as Patrick Kelly--perhaps he was also the "inventor"?).
Anyone who wants to see it can ggogle for the severed head patent, of US Pat No. 4,666,425.

I still have the book that was picked up at a flea market in the early 90's. It was a hoot! I figured the man was nuts.Big RR wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 5:58 pmI recall that patent; it issued sometime in the 1980s and was pretty much considered to bes a joke or prank. The blurb on zinc kept me cold free with few exceptions. That reminds me of another book on my list I need to buy.

Re: Zinc Acetate
Zinc has been studied and correlated with reduced symptoms from the types of coronaviruses that cause the common cold - it’s a primary ingredient in the popular Airborne product that many people take prior to air travel to reduce the risk of getting sick, and some brands of throat lozenges contain zinc for the same reason.
There is no definitive evidence that it is effective in reducing severity of covid19 symptoms, it is most certainly not some kind of miracle treatment - but it can’t hurt you to try it.

Re: Zinc Acetate
Darren--I never met the guy (or the attorney if they are different people), but the patent is pretty funny in a strange way. I recall there was also a book called something like Patenting a Severed Head, but I never read it. I'm not surprised it was funny and he may well be nuts.
Re: Zinc Acetate
The title is If We Can Keep a Severed Head Alive. Judging from the online prices, up to $600+ for new and unused, I may need to dig mine out.
Unfortunately it's in a 40' container with thousands of others. It might sell in a year or two if at all.

I take zinc during cold season mostly as a prophylaxis.
However, it didn't do much for preventing gastric cancer.
Maybe I should have upped the dosage.

Helpful Health Tip: If you have any pennies lying around that were made in 1982 and later, they are made of 97.5% zinc. It might be a way to get rid of those pesky coins and protect you from COVID-19 at the same time.
Re: Zinc Acetate
Stop beating up on Darren! I was told zinc acetate will protect against zombies and werewolves and for 40 years it has worked perfectly.

Re: Zinc Acetate
The unproven claim that an antimalarial drug can cure coronavirus - called a 'game-changer' and a 'gift from God' by Donald Trump - has been promoted by a crypto-currency lawyer who has made a string of bogus claims, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Gregory Rigano made a series of Fox News and conservative and Christian radio appearances to tout the idea that chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine 'cures' conronavirus.
The anti-malaria drug is now the subject of series of clinical trials, including in New York, where the state received 10,000 doses.
It has been praised by Trump repeatedly - but the first time he did, at the White House last Friday, epidemiologist Tony Fauci stepped in to warn it was not scientifically proven to be effective and safe.
Trump amplified the case for the drug again on Twitter Monday amid apparent public tensions with Fauci.
Now a DailyMail.com investigation reveals how:
Rigano falsely claimed to be an adviser to Stanford University's School of Medicine;
He also falsely claimed to have consulted with the University of Alabama at Birmingham;
The Google document which he used to first promote his claims was removed by Google after being formatted to look like a scientific paper when it was not;
Other academics and apparent backers of the original claims in the Google document said they had nothing to do with it;
He set up an LLC in mid-February;
Rigano previously set up a cryptocurrency firm which he said was 'designed to cheat death';
He has also tried to source funding to 'cure aging,' 'end Alzheimer's,' 'live forever' and 'cure cancer;'
Did not correct a television interviewer who repeatedly called him 'doctor';
Has enlisted a doctor for 'trials' who is a serial entrepreneur whose other plans include a 'personalized nutrition engine'.

Re: Zinc Acetate
Perhaps a little misread? He didn't praise the man AFAIK - he's been touting the anti-malaria drug, which is being tested
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Zinc Acetate
Zinc acetate doesn't work as a supplement that the body absorbs. Here's the article from 2019 that backed up the statement in the book. Note that it says the lozenges are not for everyday use.

My zinc intake has always been Nature Made tablets, not lozenges. Years ago clinical trials by the FDA said stuff like zinc based Airborne lozenges are totally ineffective against colds and flu -- mostly placebo if anything, and a waste of money.
